I watched as that new kid walked away. It was sad, he didn't seem to have any friends. But he also didn't seem to want any.
I broke off from Aaron, Hercules, and Lafayette to walk over to the Schuyler sisters.
"Hey Angelica, Eliza, and Peggy." I said, waving. Peggy waved enthusiastically, Eliza shyly, Angelica boldly. Their waves fit their personalities.
"You know that new kid?" I asked. Peggy sighed and nodded.
"Yeah. Well sorta. He doesn't talk. At all. I had a few more classes with him, didn't ask questions, just wrote."
"I bumped into him on accident. He acted like it was my fault." I said. Eliza looked down, shifting closer to Angelica. I felt my face grow a bit red.
"I'll see you tomorrow." I said and went back to my friends. Those sisters were popular, but didn't act like it. It might be nice, but it threw me off. Finally I left, heading towards MeteorAntler Cafe. It was an okay restaurant thing. I only went there for their coffee.
I didn't expect to see the new boy from my class standing at the register. His face went red when I got to the counter.
"Hey. I'm John... from school." I said, sticking out my hand. He hesitantly took it.
"Hamilton. Alexander Hamilton." He said shaking once and then snatching back his hand as if he was afraid I would hurt him. I took my hand back.
"Uh... I'll take a caffè macchiato."
"What size?" He said... and blushed right after. He had a slight accent, I just could place from where. I grinned.
"Venti for the coffee please." He nodded and went back. He talked to someone and went back.
"A name for the order?"
"Laurens." Alexander nodded and grabbed a cup writing quickly and threw to someone in the back, who caught it. I sat down. It was strange. He worked hard at school and then straight to another hardworking job. But who was John to judge?
"Laurens!" Alexander's voice called out. John stood up and grabbed it.
"Thanks."
"It's my job. Have a nice day, sir." Alexander turned away, signaling that the conversation was over. John sighed and walked out, drinking his drink. He walked home, red curls bouncing. His sister hugged him when he walked in the door.
"Hi John! How was high school? Was it awesome and full of drama?" She asked with her eyes sparkling, pulling him to the table, grabbing his coffee and drinking some. Laurens laughed.
"It was same old same old. How was your first day of sixth grade, Martha?" He asked, ruffling her hair. She was five years younger than him and one of his favorite sisters. His two brothers entered with his other sister. Sometimes it was hard being the oldest and having them all look up to him. But mainly it was fun. The three other kids climbed onto the chairs beside him. They all had blue eyes and brown-red, red, or flame red hair. John was the one with the most freckles though. He stood up, grinning.
"Alright you rascals, leave me alone. I have homework." He said and walked to his room, bringing his bag with him. Mary Eleanor, his youngest sibling, walked in, holding his coffee. She lifted her small arms, offering it to him. He took it and kissed her head lightly before closing the door after she left.
John placed his bag on his bed and pulled out a sketchbook. There was something about Alexander Hamilton, a secret ticking inside his mysteriousness, and John wanted to find out what it was.
He took a pencil and flipped to an empty page before he began sketching.
He stared at the drawing and frowned.
"What are you Alexander Hamilton? Who are you..." He tore out the drawing and put it in his desk.
