Taking a deep sigh, I knocked on Cabin 1's door. My knuckles ached afterwards, but I was too busy to notice the sharp pain. Don't get me wrong, I was tired too. However, the same thought had been on my mind all night and I just wasn't one of those girls who didn't need answers.
I needed answers.
I had a thirst for them.Answering the door grumpily, Jason brushed his blond hair back from his eyes. "Do you know what time it is, Pipes?"
I knew perfectly well what the time was: the crack of dawn on sign up day. I also knew perfectly well that I could melt into his welcoming arms any second so I decided to make it quick.
"We are going to sign up for the Triwizard tournament..."
I hated the silence that followed. It was awkward and gave me too much time to dwell.
"What?" Jason asked, obviously not expecting that. Part of him was still asleep. I didn't blame him. But I needed answers. I needed answers. Oh boy, did I need answers.
In a slow but direct voice, I repeated, "We are signing up for the Triwizard tournament." Jason sighed. He gingerly pulled me into his cabin, shutting the door behind him.
"Pipes, I have a lot of work to still do. Besides, we just participated in two battles within this term! The tournament is destined for trouble."
I exploded. I couldn't help it. Not really.
Because, I got that he may not want to be in another fight. I got that he might just want a normal year at camp. But he could not use the work card again. He had been pushing me around for too long with that. Not anymore.
"WHY THE HECK NOT!? YOU ARE USING YOUR WORK AS AN ESCAPE! JUST LISTEN TO ME!" I yelled. Jason raised his eyebrow for me to go on, a hurt expression gushed over him.
Lowering my voice, I continued. "Jason, what's going on with you? Why are you so wrapped up in this shrine business ?" I sat down awaiting for his answer. I thought that whatever it would be, I was ready. I was wrong.
In a heart-breaking voice, Jason began. "When we were back on the ship, minor gods and goddesses nearly tore us apart. Like Kym. They all tried to kill us because they were forgotten, but I promised I'd make them heroes again. That was the only way I could stop them from killing you and the others, Pipes. I promised them, and I keep my promises. "
There was a tear in both of our eyes. I shook myself. " I get that. But you need to remember to have a life too. Please... "
Outside, the camp began to wake up. There was a light but thrilled buzz there swept in the air. I knew what it meant. And so did he.
Slowly, Jason nodded. "OK." I wasn't expecting that. I thought I'd have to annoy him into it. But he said yes, and I couldn't help but smile. "Seriously?" I had to double check that my ears hadn't deceived me.
"You are right, I have been a little checked out lately. I'm sorry. I guess a year off couldn't hurt. It would be fun!" He grinned.
I threw my arms around Jason before we hurried down towards the crowd by the Big House. They were waiting for Chiron. I heard the familiar voices of my friends in the distance. They were talking about swimming with the fishes, or something like that.
Percy's voice traveled towards us. "Me too..."
Jason and I popped up by our group of friends. Percy, Annabeth and Ami grinned at us, a little surprised. "So you are coming..., what took you so long?" Ami nudged my shoulder a little. The girls new of my chat. I had told them my predicament and they told me what I should do.
I love my friends. I really do.
Jason looked down at the soles of Percy's shoes. " Mate, why are your shoes soaking wet? " Annabeth and Ami burst out laughing whilst Percy blushed the shade of Rachel's hair.
"Don't even ask..." Percy growled.
