My eyes were glued to the front at Chiron, who was about to speak. His lips parted, and a small smile curved his mouth. There was a delicate twinkle in his eye that only sparkled whilst he was enthusiastic.
"I have just placed up the sign up sheet." He announced. "But be warned. Those who write their names down will be entered in to the tournament, and once entered, there is no turning back. This competition has got many killed before. That is why, those whose origin is of Hogwarts, will have an 18 or over age limit. I believe you will all be fine, but be careful. " Chiron's voice actually worried me. He wasn't joking, this tournament had obviously killed many wizards before.
But my friends and I weren't normal wizards...
" When you have signed up, please meet me by the cabins. I have some equipment for the up coming year." Chiron finished his lecture.
Riding off into the middle of the camp, Chiron vanished into the distance, galloping away. Then came the pushing and shoving. The next few minutes reeked of havoc.
By the time I had made my way into the rec room in the big house, my friends and I were the last to sign up. At least that meant I could see who else would be joining us.
The sheet was pressed out neatly on the ping ping table. Despite never learning how to write (Annabeth is teaching me), 'Ami' was a pretty easy word to scribble down. Due to this, I could not read amazingly well either. So Annabeth kindly read out all the names for me.
I only recognised a few of them that weren't my friends. They were:
"Clarisse
Pollux
Connor
Travis
Katie"Slowly, we made our way back to the cabins. In the center, was Chiron nestled within tables of equipment. There was a small crowd gathered around him.
We joined the group as Chiron had started hanging up lists, and handing out equipment. This time, however, I could actually read the signs. The letters stringed together so easily. How could I have ever of found this hard?
Noticing my eyes scanning the words, Annabeth was hardly surprised. "Your brain is wired to understand Latin and Ancient Greek. I imagine it's easier for you due to your... You know... Heritage." Clearly, she couldn't quite figure out the right word. I couldn't blame her.
Some how for me, family had always been a touchy subject. Although I was slowly becoming more open, my friend knew I didn't want to be pushed. That's what I liked about my friend. With all her intelligence, some times, she knew just to keep her mouth shut on a difficult subject.
After all, I might have been the only child of Artemis, but I was far from having a healthy relationship with my Mother. I supposed I had started calling her 'Mum'. That's a start, right?
The signs read:
You must collect your Hogwarts trunk from the front. All possessions (such as clothes, school stationary and Armour) must be packed in the trunk and handed in by this evening. We leave for Hogwarts tomorrow afternoon, by boat. Everything must be loaded onto the boat by nine am.
Each camper is allowed to bring only one weapon with them, which will be used either for the tournament or for training. Lessons at Hogwarts will be the same as back at camp. Any weapon used against another wizard student will be confiscated. It is a privilege to be at Hogwarts, one that can be taken away.
Our entry within the Great Hall has to be a performance, so during the journey, you shall be expected to orchestrate entertainment.
Hogwarts have a short Halloween break off school. Also, at Easter and Christmas, students often travel home to their families. This will be the opportunity to see them during the year. At Christmas, the champion selected will be expected to represent the Camp at a tradition on Christmas Eve.
True to the words, Chiron was surrounded with large trunks, embedded with a school crest. We waited until the crowd had died down before approaching him.
I collected the large box around the handle. It was surprisingly light, before remembering that it was empty. Once everyone had claimed a trunk, Annabeth raised an eyebrow at Chiron.
"Ship? What ship are we going on?"
A slight smile curved Chiron's lips. Amusement clouded his pupils as he declared. "You will just have to wait! Though I imagine you will recognise it Miss Chase!"
Even Annabeth couldn't quite work out Chiron's little riddle. I grinned. This was going to be fun...
