Ahh...Cradle Oaks Orphanage...what a place. Not exactly 'homely', but it's a bed to sleep on, a bowl of food, and a group of kids.
They all have their individual stories, every single one of them.
Like Robert, for example, he's ten years old, his mother is very sick, and his father doesn't want him. Yet he's always so happy and cheerful.
Maya is a sixteen year old girl, she was dropped off by her grandma after her parents died in a train crash. Sassy, classy and little bit rebellious.
Carlos- thirteen years old, always sorta been at the orphanage, nobody knows his story, partly because he never says anything about it. Smart and mysterious.
Ruben, fifteen, he was taken away from his family because they weren't treating him right. Strong, silent type.
The twins, Kaila and Kohen, they're very happy-go-lucky. They had a single teenage mother who's never bothered coming back for them. They're fourteen.
And Denise, fifteen, the main character, she's new to Cradle Oaks Orphanage, and to the whole Gifter thing. Curious, shy and doesn't take crap from anybody.
There's a lot more here with them, but they are the main ones Denise speaks to. They all have to share a room, so it's sorta cliché that they're all friends.
And they all share one special thing.
A gift.
You can always tell when a Gifter is near. It's the feeling, the connection you get with them. It's something that draws you to them, bit by bit. The nudging of your gut and heart, the eye contact they make with you.
The gift, that Denise didn't know she had.
