I was running, about to be killed by a gigantic mix of a bear, hog, and dragon when, “beep beep beep.” It was my least favorite day, Friday.  I don’t like Fridays because it means that I have to live through at least two days of not being at school. I guess it can be nice to have a break, but two whole days?  The only thing to do now is get ready.  I put on a light blue scarf over a grey shirt along with a pair of skinny jeans. I top it off with a pair of grey boots.

It was a warm spring day so I decided to walk to school.  The popular girls think it’s weird since I could simply teleport to school.  I always try to explain to them that it gives you exercise and it’s relaxing since about no one uses cars, for now people can now teleport wherever they want to go as long as they have their permits and have the teleport pod in their finger tip.  All anyone has to do is make an infinity sign in the air and either say or think the place they want to go.

I’m at the end of Hamer Lane when I see something out of place.  Five trees that are normally on the right are now on the left.  Okay so maybe it doesn’t seem like that big of a deal, but the whole northern hemisphere banned anything that wasn't normal.  I have to keep myself hidden from half the world, it isn’t easy at all.  The law states that the person or persons involved in the act of the “crime” are to be punished and/or killed. I decide to tell my mother when I get home from school.

I continue walking to school, thinking about those five mysterious trees.

My first class is yoga, which is my third favorite class right after reading and writing After we finished off with the mountain pose, us girls changed back into our normal clothes, each of us in our own dressing room.

I had to walk about three hundred feet to get to my advanced math class.  After an hour of learning new things, the bell rang announcing it was time for third hour, yay!  I have a double period with Ms.Heart, our reading teacher.  I’m especially happy because it’s a read - all - class  day.

I’m reading The Healing Serum, which is about a girl trying to find a way to heal her world that is being destroyed by some unknown source.

As class ends I decide to teleport home for lunch.  My mom, Jenny, made me spaghetti.

My mother has sea green eyes with long, sparkling brown hair.  Sometimes I wonder if she really is my mom, considering we look nothing alike, except for our smiles.  I have long blonde hair and electric blue eyes.

Once I finished eating I put my backpack on when I heard “Angel, where are you going?”

I reply to my mom, “umm, school, where else?”  I was taken by surprise when she told me it was only a half day.  I knew better than to argue with her.  Then I remembered about the five trees I saw, So I told my mom.

“They were always on the left side,” she replied looking concerned.  “It might be because your a detector, because you also seemed to be positive there was school for the rest of the day.”

I frown, “mom are you sure? It doesn't seem like thats what a ‘detector’ would do.”

She looks at me as though she expected more of me.  “Angel you are only twelve years old, I know more about detectors than you do.”

“Like what,” I demand.

“Like there was once more out there but they wrecked the government's plans.  You’ll find out more about being a detector soon enough.”

“Thanks, that helped me so much,” I mutter.  My mother gives me the evil eye.  “I’m going to go into the forest,” I say.  Without further adieu I grab my backpack that has some food, water, and my book, The Healing Serum  and I then set out for my willow tree.

When I first stepped into the forest, I knew something was wrong.  The trees were dying and the ones that were in their beautiful blossom stage were no longer beautiful.   There were evil dark vines wrapping themselves delicately around trees, yet being sure to crush their branches.  One tree had so many vines you would have thought it was the trees prey, then again i'm guessing the trees are its prey.

As I continue  to walk towards the tree, I notice there aren't as many vines on the plants near it.  I didn't give it much thought though.

My willow wasn't harmed by any of the vines.  As I sit down to read, I feel as if i'm in a trance.  I couldn’t think right and I had to keep re-reading a paragraph over and over again until I finally lost the will to read and stay  awake.
