I woke up to the annoying sound of my alarm ringing in my ears and glanced at my phone to see the time. Feeling exhausted, I reluctantly got out of bed. Last night, Haley and I stayed up late watching her favorite movie and indulging in junk food.

As I entered the bathroom, I caught a glimpse of my reflection in the mirror. My frizzy hair looked like a wild mess of curls. Just as I was about to step into the shower, there was a knock on my door.

Haley and I had decided to move in together a while ago, but because of my college commitments, we had to wait. Finally, after finishing college, we were able to move in together. However, we both needed to find jobs to afford the rent. Haley's parents kindly covered the first month's rent, and eventually, we both secured jobs and started saving up.

Opening the door, I found Haley standing there, looking adorable in her pink and white crop top, high-waisted pants, and white wedges. Her outfit accentuated her curves, giving her the appearance of a potential model, even though she despised the industry for its fakeness. I couldn't blame her.

"Good morning, Hales! Your outfit is incredibly cute," I complimented her before heading back into the bathroom. "Hales, could you help me pick out an outfit?"

"Of course," she agreed, glancing at my frizzy hair and bursting into laughter. "Did a hurricane visit your hair overnight?" she teased.

"Laugh all you want," I retorted, sticking my tongue out at her. While she rummaged through my closet, I continued with my usual morning routine.

After brushing my teeth and washing my face, I stepped into the shower. The warm water cascading over my skin provided a soothing sensation. Once I finished showering, I dressed in a stylish red checkered jacket, ripped jeans, and red shoes.

Today, I had plans to visit the mall and buy an outfit for my new job, which was starting tomorrow. I couldn't believe I landed the position of a personal assistant. I had aimed for this job to help contribute to the rent.

"Jade, are you ready?" Haley shouted from downstairs.

"Just a minute, I'll be right down," I replied. I sprayed a hint of rose perfume on myself, grabbed my purse and phone, and made my way downstairs.

We walked outside and got into the car. As we drove, I couldn't help but feel a reluctance to leave the house or venture out, but I knew it was necessary. I needed to move on and leave the past behind.

Suddenly, the car came to a halt, signaling our arrival at the mall. I stepped out. "Girl, which store are you heading to now? Because I'm starving," Haley said, rubbing her belly.

"I'll start at Forever 21, and then we can satisfy your hunger," I chuckled as she pouted and continued rubbing her tummy.

After finding what I needed at the store, we headed to McDonald's to appease Haley's insatiable appetite. I took a seat while she went to place the order.

I couldn't shake off the feeling of being watched, but I brushed it off as mere imagination. Moments later, Haley returned with our food. "Jade, a guy is staring at you," she mentioned, prompting me to turn around and lock eyes with the mysterious observer.

Oh my, he was incredibly attractive, with sleeked-back hair and hazel eyes that resembled gold. I quickly averted my gaze and exclaimed, "Damn, he's beautiful. Why on earth is he staring at me?"

"Well, for one, you're beautiful. Maybe he's interested," Haley speculated as she dug into her meal.

After we finished eating, we left the mall and headed home.

During the car ride, the image of the mysterious guy lingered in my mind. I couldn't help but wonder why he had been staring at me. Haley noticed my preoccupied state and nudged me playfully.

"Hey, earth to Jade! You've been quiet ever since we left the mall. What's on your mind?" she asked, clearly curious.

I let out a sigh, trying to gather my thoughts. "I don't know, Hales. It's just that guy at the restaurant. I can't shake off the feeling that there's something more to it. Call it a gut instinct."

Haley raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Really? Well, he did seem captivated by you. Maybe you should've gone over and said hi."

I chuckled nervously. "Hales, come on! I couldn't possibly do that. Besides, I'm not looking for any distractions right now. I need to focus on the new job and getting settled in our place."

Haley smirked mischievously. "Well, Jade, you never know what the universe has in store for you. Sometimes, unexpected encounters lead to the most incredible adventures."

I rolled my eyes, but deep down, her words resonated with me.

The rest of the evening flew by as we relaxed at home, catching up on our favorite TV shows and sharing stories. Haley had always been my support system, and I cherished the comfort of our friendship.

As the night grew darker, Haley yawned and stretched her arms. "I think it's time to call it a day. Miss Personal Assistant," she teased.

I laughed, feeling a mix of nerves and anticipation for my first day at the job. "I better get some rest. I want to make a good impression and start off on the right foot tomorrow."

We bid each other goodnight and retreated to our respective rooms. Lying in bed, I couldn't help but wonder what awaited me in this new chapter of my life. The thought of facing new challenges and opportunities filled me with a sense of purpose.

With that determination in mind, I closed my eyes, allowing sleep to carry me into a realm of dreams and possibilities.
