"...You are kidding right?" I chanced a glance at an incredulous blue eyed stare and quickly avoided eye contact like I always do.
"Um...no?" I was so unconfident with my answer that it ended off sounding like a question. Like shit I don't know it's not like I ride the train regularly and when I do there's always someone who knows. It's like how when I was younger I didn't know my address but I knew how to get to home except now I know my address but don't know how to get home.
"Alison how do you go to Manhattan and let your friends leave you if you didn't know how to get home?" The disapproving tone was real this time and the eyebrow of judgement was raised. It was like he was lecturing me. God is this how Stark feels?
"Look Rogers I didn't plan that far I thought I'd figure it out okay you don't gotta be so judgey." If Captain tightpants wanted to do full names I would.
"Figure it out?" The disbelief on his face was sorta funny but I didn't think it was appropriate to laugh.
"You thought you'd just figure out how to get home from a unknown location with it getting progressively later as you figure it out." Steve pinched the bridge of his nose and under his breathe muttered, "Now I understand Bucky's eternal frustration with me 'figure it out'."
I'm pretty sure I wasn't meant to hear that Steve wouldn't bring up Bucky to basically a stranger. And my hearing is pretty crap on good days, people constantly have to repeat things to me when they're right next to me and talking at a normal volume. What the shit?
I decided not to respond to the last part.
"I can practically smell your judgement from here Rogers, maps exist, the internet exists I'm going to figure it out don't worry about it." I tried to say it like I knew what I was talking about but it was a guessing game whether or not my phone worked or actually had internet.
When I found my phone in my bag I saw that it didn't go to the home screen, which was like the beginning of marvel movies where clips of the MCU would flicker by but mine was in a comic book version and you hold it with a finger like you would a live iPhone picture to animate it.
Screen was blue and a little loading symbol showed up. That had never happened before and I figured it had something to do with the fact that I had something that was marvel from my universe and then because I brought it into this universe things were bound to get screwy. I was sure my phone wasn't going to work until it went to my home screen. My MARVEL home screen.
I made sure to quickly input my pin and hide the phone because I didn't want to wreck the time space continuum. Luckily my wallpaper was just a bunch of physics equations but I speedily pressed the MTA app the I had installed awhile ago for Halloween and I had cellular data which then prompted me to quickly turn my head towards the ceiling and thank baby Jesus.
"Regardless of that Mercedes you should have done it beforehand and have at least an idea of what train you're supposed to take." Which he was right but I wasn't going to admit that. "Do you even know if you're supposed to go downtown or uptown?" He asked as of though he wouldn't be surprised if I didn't which, fair, but like I at least deserve a modicum of faith.
"If you really want to know so damn bad it's downtown, I'm not stupid I know the differences of the boroughs." I was getting a little heated but that was the anger issues kicking in and also I just don't like it ever to be insinuated that I'm stupid which I know he wasn't though and that I was overreacting.
Steve seemed to realize I was getting agitated and lowered his tone. "Hey I never said you were stupid. I'm sorry if I made it seem like that, but I didn't mean that." Steve was speaking softly and carefully and I just slapped my palm to my head.
"No no I'm sorry it wasn't that deep I took it too serious and you're right I should know." Damn when am I not gonna screw something up. My face was in my hand because I was under no circumstances showing my face.
"It's the two train." My voice sounded muffled from my hand but I'm sure his enhanced senses would pick it up.
"You know your hand is probably covered in germs from jumping the turnstile." Steve gave me a way out of the previous conversation also letting me know there were no hard feelings. "You could get sick."
"Good." I murmured through my palm, my backpack suddenly seeming a few pounds heavier. "Hopefully it causes my premature death." My voice was monotone and I peaked open an eye briefly to see Steve smirk before he spoke.
"Mood."
