Concerned Brother

 Hi guys, I have already asked about posting my old unpublished OS and this was written around three years back and yes I modified the story a bit from before but still it is fully unedited. Hopefully it will live up to your expectation.          

Uttara Maheshwari didn't know if it was right to feel happy , her family members were hurt by Laksh bhai disappearance and they were further affected when her sister in laws left the house as well especially her brother who took it hard and drowned his sorrows in a glass of wine every single day for the past six months.  Still when a offer for marriage for her hand reached the elders of the house, they set aside their grief for her and because of their good intention she was going to get engaged to Chiraj tomorrow.     

Once she thought she was in love and got hurt by his betrayal, this time she trusted her family choice and over time she had grown to like him, he was always silent around his mother but when alone, he made her smile and she liked him. She couldn't wait to start her life with him, this time not for love but based on trust and affection. Over time she hoped she will grow to love him as well.           

She was walking back to her room , when she happened to cross her parents room and overheard a conversation she didn't want to be aware of , she should have walked away but they were talking about her, so she stilled and listened .           

" Mom, listen to me.. I am concerned about Uttara, I don't mind that their demand for dowry keep increasing every day, I just mind that they seem to threaten to stop the marriage to make us comply with their demands. If Chiraj's mom threatens us every instance how will Uttara be able to live with her . Cant we end the engagement now. I don't think they will keep her happy" her brother's voice was mild and yet she heard his desperation in it.        

Uttara should have got angry that he was asking her parents to stop the marriage but a part of her understood his reasons, Chiraj's mom tends to be over dramatic and Uttara had been more than little scared of her .           

" Chiraj's mom is bit old principled that her words seem harsh, but she hails from a respected family, a family who didn't mind that Uttara marriage was broken once before , you already failed to find a good wife  by marrying Swara . Now you want to stop a good offer for your sister" her mom spoke up and Uttara was frustrated with her mother lack of sympathy for her brother          

Her brother loved Swara bhabhi, and though they were apart now. She had full hope of their reunion and frankly Uttara loved her bhabhi and didnt like it when her mom continue to disparage her .           

" But mom, she keeps saying she will kick out Uttara at every instance. Think about it please it her life " her brother spoke up yet again for her.           

" Tomorrow is the engagement Sanskar and it is too late to talk about it now, i know Chiraj mom can be out spoken but Chiraj is a good man. And Uttara would be happy with him" her father spoke up this time around .        

"Yeah tell him and ask him not to mess up his sister life . we all know how hard it is for them to accept the alliance given our family present situation and add to that Uttara marriage was called off once and we are not letting it happen again" her mother voice raised a all time high as she spoke those words making Uttara wince at the remainder of her broken marriage yet again.       

 "  Fine mom,  I wont talk about it anymore ." her brother conceded and Uttara left before anyone see her . All the awhile wondering if he was right to be concerned about her marriage.

  Sanskar knew his parents were right, Chiraj was a nice person indeed. When the alliance came first , he did check everything about the family. And they were an reputed family in Kolkatta and he was satisfied until he met the family the last few weeks.  Especially Chiraj mom and her harsh words made him worry, it is his sister life and he remained concerned about her .  He knew his mom would probably kill him if she found out but he had to talk with his sister once before the engagement happens.               

He only had the chance later  the next day, just an hour before the engagement guests arrival. Surprisingly it was his sister who found him , she was all decked up and Sanskar saw that she was no longer the little sister who needs his help. She looked all grown up and the happiness in her face made his heart falter as he wondered if he should say anything that snatches it away .       

Her happiness was all he needed and he would do anything to protect her , yet he need to shatter it right now if it would ensure she doesn't suffer or regret this marriage later.               

" My little sister is all grown up and she looks really beautiful" Sanskar spoke up as she made her way towards him . Yet his face lost the smile at her stern expression.           

" I overheard you talking to mom last night bhai" she spoke up and he felt like an idiot for hurting her .        

  " Sorry Sis, I  was just talking out of fear. You don't worry about anything, you are happy right that all that matter" he found himself speaking up as he couldn't imagine hurting her by his actions.       

" I am happy bhai, but I get what you are worried about , I am too. Though Chirag did say his mom is not that scary but she looks really scary sometime" Uttara answered back       

"Yeah, she even makes me feel scared and your bhai doesn't get scared easily" Sanskar spoke to lighten the mood and it worked as his sister broke into a smile at his admission.    

" But Chiraj says once I get to know her, I might feel differently . She may act bit tough but she is not a bad person" Uttara spoke up quietly trying to reassure him, it made him wondered how his sister grow up so much that she wanted to allay his fears.       

 "This is your life Uttara and I  just want you to be happy" Sanskar admitted the truth, behind his concerns lays the truth , that he is a brother who wants his sister happiness.        

" I know bhai, I choose once and it ended in a disaster. This time I wanted to let our parents choose and yeah I understand how you feel but don't worry bhai, I will be happy" Uttara was quick to reassure him again.    

 " I am here for you always Uttara, Just remember that, you can share anything with me and i will always support you" Sanskar spoke up trying to convey to his sister that he would be by her side 

    " I know that bhai, I just wanted to talk , so you don't worry about me" his sister answered back with a smile

   " I am your brother , and I am gonna always worry about you. But now that i have talked to you , I feel a lot better. Go on and don't worry about me. Today is your day. Forgot about your idiot brother and be happy" Sanskar told her as he held her in an hug before walking away from her . 
It was the truth, he was going to worry about his sister always not because she needs him, but because as her brother he cant help but be concerned about her happiness.
