Billy drove her home, taking the way with the most detours so he could talk to her.
"so uh, when did you arrive here?" he asked, looking at her out of the corner of his eyes, keeping his eyes on the road. she would always advise him to watch or else she would make him pull over and let her drive instead.
"just a few months before you, i tried to call you and say no but you never answered." he raised his eyebrows at this. "that's when Max picked up the phone one night and we started talking about the move"
"and what? you never decided to come and find me? not like this town is too big to find the newbie in."
"oh really, and you would have came running into my arms and forgiven me for what i did? and introduced me to your new popular friends and have me join them?" Billy pulled over in front of her and her brothers house now.
"no way Billy, i like being friends with Johnathan and Steve! Nancy welcomed me the day i showed up outside the school, they took care of me while i waited for you to show up, and when you started being an absolute ASS because no one was here to reign you in, i showed up again."
he stared at her in silence as she opened her door and unbuckled the seatbelt she was wearing. "that's what i'm here for, that's why i'm always around, for you, because you need me as much as i need you. you just can't admit it as easily now that i've hurt you"
tearing up she finished her point "i'm going to prove to you that i never stopped loving you, i needed to be in a safer place than i was with my parents, and i'm sorry that i left you alone." with that, Athena leaned over to Billy's side and hugged him, until he decided to let go. then she kissed him on the cheek, closed his car door, and walked up to the door to let herself inside.
Billy waited at the road until she got inside, flickering the light to signal she's safe, before driving off back to a undoubtedly angry Neil.
