jeongguk had a skip in his step, hand in hand with his namjoon hyung. he would be lying if he was to say he wasn't excited. . . he was thrilled!

he's never thought of getting a pet, a dog specifically. . . he always thought it was a too much of a responsibility knowing some people theorize that they have human souls. . he couldn't help but believe it.

as dumb as it sounds.

maybe a fish or maybe a bird- as long as it's easier to take care of, since he's sure a big-ass dog would follow you around the house! but he's sure, with his namjoon-hyung's help everything will fall into place.

or so he thought.

"hey baby, have you thought about which breed you wanted? they have a wide variety, y'know, it would also shorten our time there..."

"whaddya mean? don't you like being around your boyfriend, hyungie?"

"okaaaaaay, maybe you're right- take as much time as you want."

soon they arrive in front of a quaint little shop, painted cute shades of pastel pink and blue- the logo in front reading, "jinnie's pet store" in big swirly writing.

"wah! hyung it's so pretty!" jeongguk marvels at how his favorite colors paint the structure. namjoon chuckles at his cuteness.

"right? just like him-"

a big-ass sweater paw meets namjoon's face.

"shut up you dumb lovestruck witch!"

"ow! what the- "

"whatever, can you zip your blabber mouth? i wanna meet my new puppy already!"

namjoon stresses his sigh, raising a hand to his face to mimic a fainting actress, "okay so first of all, i, kim namjoon, is anything but a witch! second of all, why did i agree to this?"

the younger boy stops in his tracks to turn around, "because of this!" jeongguk points at himself, batting his long eyelashes. namjoon groans, his heart fluttering at the sight. "hell kookie, you know i can't resist you."

jeongguk giggles, quitting their shenanigans to push the door to the shop open. small barks meet his ears, his eyes glowing at the sounds. namjoon enters behind him as well.

a man in a pink uniform comes out from the (also pink) door near the cashier, running a hand through his blonde locks. jeongguk waves an eager hand to gain his attention, "jinnie hyung!"

the latter grins once he takes notice of the boy, telling one of his staff to assist one of the other customers there, finally walking over to the two. "hey joonie, hey kookie! how are you both?"

"we're fine jin-hyung, but i'm sure namjoon hyung told you about the reason we're here!" jin claps his hands in excitement, "ah, yes, yes! we can begin right now, my favorite--" jin squishes jeongguk's cheeks, "most adorable customer ever!"

namjoon rolls his eyes but chuckles in amusement at the scene. "he hasn't even been here, yet he's already your favorite customer? i thought i was your favorite! what about me?"

"oh c'mon joonie, don't overreact, you do know our little kookie here has always been an exception!" gguk giggles at the way his other hyung huffs.

"stop being a big baby joonie, c'mon kookie, let's go find you a pup to bring home now!" namjoon letting the jinkook pair do their thing, jeongguk trails behind the blonde hair male, following his trail to the cages and built-off fences with various breeds of dogs present. the same breeds were in cages together, most being bred from the same parents. plus they got along much easier.

"here's the doggie section! you said you wanted a dog right?" jeongguk nods, "so joon says you wanted a companion? hm, i suggest golden retrievers if you prefer the huge cuddly kind, but pomeranians are also very cute although they are tiny pups who love attention! there are also labradors and bichons..." seokjin motions to whichever breed he thought jeongguk preferred with a smile.

jeongguk smiled at the sight of the cute little puppies staring and yawning at the sight of him, although he didn't feel a spark when he made eye contact with any of the dogs so far. maybe he had to keep looking.

he was toured around by jin, the latter being very excited by the fact the younger was buying himself a pet- talking about the characteristics of each one with no end. his eyes darted everywhere, to yorkies to bulldog terriers and to huskies-- but he never felt quite the urge to bring one of them home. once his eyes set on the last few dens in the room, a pout formed on his face at the thought that maybe he wasn't such a dog person after all.

"oooookay! so that's the last of em', have you decided? i'm sure you made a lot of choices!" jin's grinning, his foot tapping on the ground. jeongguk smiles shyly, rubbing the back of his neck in embarassment. "that was it, hyung?"

"huh? what do you mean kookie?"

"uh, well- i just haven't made quite a sure decision yet! are you sure these are the last of them?"

the older bites his lip at the thought of jeongguk not liking any of the other dogs. but wanting to make the younger happy, he proceeds. so jin shakes his head hesitantly, fiddling with his fingers.

"well, um. . . there is another one. . . although disclaimer, he's not quite like the rest."

jeongguk is lead to another section of the shop, being closed off from the other area. jin flashes a small smile at him before he pushes a door open, and jeongguk almost gasps at quite the size the room was. well, it wasn't just a room, it was a play area.

the room was almost too quiet, as if there was actually nobody residing inside the room. jeongguk tilted his head in confusion.

"chim? come out buddy! you have a visitor,"

the silence continues, although jeongguk releases a breath he didn't realize he was holding in when a medium-sized dog, not being too small or too big, appears from inside one of the small ball pits in the room. the dog had an ear flopped down on his face, the other one perking in curiosity once he makes eye contact with the human boy.

and that's where jeongguk has a strong feeling that this, this is the dog he should be taking home.
