June 20th is the longest day of every year in the northern hemisphere, because of that the lycans decided many years ago that it was the best day to hold a large meeting between the packs of the land. In theory a long day meant it was best to avoid an attack by their archenemies the vampires. Today a large ball is held for the higher ranking females of the pack on the evening of the 20th. It's preceded by a long week of meetings to discuss pack treaties and alliances. Everyone dreams of getting to go someday, even though the right is reserved for more important members of the pack. Olivia Wyld was no a part of "everyone", she could care less about being invited to a ball where she would be picked apart by snotty girls and eye raped by obnoxious males. Ironically she found out that she would indeed be going because somehow her best friend Evalynn, the alpha's daughter had managed to talk her father into letting Olivia be her personal guard. Now she had to find an appropriate dress for the occasion and pack for a week long vacation. She had originally thought she would be spending the beginning of her first summer out of high school training with the other gammas so that she may apply to Guard Academy. The Guard Academy is renowned for it's training of Gamma ranked wolves. The top graduate from each year is sworn into the personal army of the king! It was an honor to just be eligible to apply, let alone to actually be excepted into the program. Unfortunately Evalynn had other plans for her this summer. Evalynn had a different outlook for her life, she planned to become a physician for the pack of her mate. Her father was not just the alpha but also one of the pack doctors along with his wife. With two parents as physicians it's kind of heard to expect to be anything else really. Anyway back to the task at hand. Dresses filled the racks and Olivia was lost in a sea of sequins and jewels. "How about this one?" her mom ran up to her holding a bright red dress. "I think that may be a little bright for me." She tried to let her down easy. "I found one!" Evalynn's overly excited voice could be heard across the whole town. She came around a corner carrying a light pink dress, Olivia's favorite color. Yeah a tomboy who's favorite color is pink, it happens, get over it. She took the dress from her friend and headed for the changing rooms. It was a a-line ball gown with sort sleeves. It looked good and her dark brown almost black hair made the dress pop against her light tan. She showed the group and once they approved she changed back out of the dress and they checked out. "Dad is freaking out that we're not back yet." Evalynn rolled her eyes as they got into the car. "Well we wouldn't be late if you had let me go without a stupid dress." Olivia retorted. "Now Ollie you can't go to a ball in a training uniform." the alpha's daughter laughed. Now it was Olivia's turn to roll her eyes. They made a speedy trip back to pack house where the alpha, beta, and a few other pack members were waiting patiently. Well the alpha had his arms crossed and looked a lot of annoyed but patient enough for a lycan.

They got out of the car and headed towards the parked cars that were waiting closer to the front door. "I told you we were leaving at 3pm sharp." the alpha barked at Evalynn, who didn't seemed phased at all by his fatherly tone. "Dad it's only 2:55pm, we're five minutes early." She shrugged at him. "5 minutes early is ten minutes late." he shot back. She rolled her eyes as she climbed into the middle row of the SUV. Olivia was bombarded by hugs from her mother, she acted like she was going off to war or something. Her father just nodded her way, and her younger sister just said see ya in a week. With the goodbyes over Olivia joined her friend the SUV. The engine came to life and off the went into the great unknown. Just kidding they just pulled out of the drive way and onto the main road. The green maples eventually turned into evergreens after it seemed they had been on the road for weeks, when in reality it had just been a few days. Olivia got an eerie feeling like a set of eyes were burning a hole into the side of her face. She glance out the window to see a flash of a shadow. "The royal army," Bradford, the pack beta informed her, "I'm surprised you caught on that quick they've only been following us for the past mile." The past mile...and he thought that was quick?! Olivia felt a shiver run down her spine and her ears popped. They had passed through a barrier, although it was much stronger than the one used on their pack lands she was familiar with it's side effects. They continued down the road for what seemed like another hour before they finally turned onto a private drive. It wound around till the trees cleared and a magnificent palace came into view. It was HUGE! "Are we there yet?" Evalynn asked not bothering to take of her sleeping mask to look for herself. She had to feel when they went through the barrier so she should have known they were getting close. "Yeah we're definitely here." Ollie laughed taking in the sights. "Goodie, I'm ready for a shower and food." Evalynn cheered throwing of her mask and sitting up. They parked the SUV in a large lot where a lot of other similar vehicles were parked. Everyone climbed out and stretched before grabbing their suitcases and following the alpha into the palace.
