''A new face could be a new friend... All you need is trust.''
"N̷a͡mȩ p͜le̷a͜se?͢" The quality of the speaker made curl up a bit.
"Whitney Sprantin, I'm supposed to be moving into apartment C14 today. Did the movers get everything in alright?" I was hoping they could understand me better than I could understand them.
"Ýe̡s͢,͢ ̷g͟o͘ o̷n̶ ̶u͘p," before I knew it, a loud clunk could be heard from the two metal doors blocking the hallway. They had unlocked and were waiting for me to go through them.
"Thanks!" I hurried off to the elevators to call one down. I was so worried the movers had done something wrong, anything wrong. I trusted them of course, but it's not all that hard to screw it up. We're all penguins out here. We make mistakes, and some of those mistakes could lead to my valuable items being crushed and ruined without a second thought. To try to get out of myself out of my anxious thoughts, I stared at the numbers dropping above the elevator. 5... 4... 3... 2... 1*BING* I directed my eyes down to the doors sliding open. By some surprise, I was met with a penguin behind the doors. My eyes got drawn directly to their bright red and white propeller hat. They were staring down out their phone not noticing the open doors at all. I decided to finally speak after a moment or two. "Hello?" Their head popped up, and I was greeted to their cherry red sunglasses.
"OH! Sorry!" They chuckled nervously, clearly embarrassed.
"It's all good! Does this elevator lead up to Hall C?" I said as care free as I could. I didn't need to make this any more awkward.
"Yepperoni! It's on floor 3."
"Thanks!" I shoot him a smile as we walked passed each other.
"Welcome to the 'plex, hall buddy!"
"Hall buddy?"
"I live on Hall C too!"
"Oh nice, I guess I'll be seeing you around then!" He turned around and headed the other way. I reached out to hit the floor button, but my attention was averted back to the guy I just met. He quickly turned back around and started looking at me once more.
"By the way, the buttons are kind of hard to push."
"Oh, thanks for telling me!" I pressed onto the button a little harder than I would normally. He was right, the button was a bit more sticky than a normal one would be.
As the doors started to close, he pipes up again, "The name's Rookie. If you need anything else, my room's C30."
"Thanks! I'll make sure to come to you for anything!" The doors wound up closing with me barely being able to finish. I started getting hoisted up towards the third floor with a jolt. These elevators were rather dinky and rattly. I'd be better off taking the stairs than these.

13, 14, 15... 16! That was the third time I recounted them. I just couldn't have anything being lost in this move. Since I was sure I had all my things there, I started to take a peak around my place. To my left from my front door, there was a bathroom, perfect for those nights you can't remember. I traveled down the mini-hallway to find my kitchen mixed with living area. The room was pretty large overall. Not massive by any means, but it was perfect for someone like me. The kitchen was directly connected to the living room. All that was separating the two rooms was a counter top/bar and a change in floors from carpet to tile. The kitchen wasn't anything special, more than enough for me to make use out of it. On the counter top sat a plethora of necessities: my keycard to get into the building, building guide, and, strangely enough, coupons. I grabbed up my keycard and placed it in my wallet. After that, I headed further back to see the glass doors leading to the balcony. I had a view of a small patch of forest followed by beach. The water reflected the moon's light quite beautifully. It made me feel at peace with my surroundings, knowing I could just sit out there and watch whenever I wanted. I turned back out of my moment of astonishment to check out my bedroom. I followed the next mini-hallway to discover my room. I flipped the lights and took in my new place of solace. It was small compared to my old room, but spacious enough for it to not be a problem. I noticed the offshoot to the bathroom, but didn't feel the need to peak in yet. I spun myself around to go back to the living room with all my boxes. It was time to start making this place a home. I had only just started unpacking when I noticed the time, 10:13PM. Jeez! I hadn't even had dinner yet. Changing over to CPT was definitely going take some getting used to. I grabbed my phone and started looking up restaurants near by. Thank god, there was a pizza place right outside my complex. I grabbed my purse and headed on out.

I looked up from my phone to be greeted by the warm glow coming from this pizza place cleverly titled: PIZZA. I pulled open the doors to be met with the wonderful smells of garlic, cheese, and fish. I could barely hold in my excitement for what was on the menu tonight. I approached the tall granite top counter and got greeted by a disinterested, blue face. "Hi, welcome to PIZZA. Table for how many?"
"Table for 1 please!" I tried to sound cheerful to brighten this guy up a bit, but he clearly wasn't having it. He just continued to not have a smile and avoided eye contact. He reached down and around to grab something before popping back up.
"Follow me." He started to dart off before I could even recognize we were going off already. I quickly caught up to him as he placed a plate down on the table for me. "Your waiter will be with you shortly, enjoy." He made a mad dash back to his place behind the counter where he continued to look solemn. Poor guy must be having a rough night. Before I could get invested in my own theories, my phone buzzed. It was a text... from my pops!
"How's my pumpkin?🎃👑💸🎵🎵🎵"
"just fine! about to eat pizza! "
"Yum! 😋🍕🍕🍕"
"How's it in Stink Landia?😂😂😂😂😂😁"
"busy and boring and not that stinky like u said it would be"
"Must've cleaned up the streets a bit seeing what competition they had inland. Haha. 😂😂😂😂😈"
"I'm sure they did haha"
"gotta go waiter is coming love you!!!!"
"I love you too, pumpkin! 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃"
As I sat my phone down, the waitress approached faster. She looked pretty frantic like there was something wrong here. "Are you really all by yourself tonight?"
"Excuse me?" I didn't know if I should feel offended or flattered, so I just replied with confusion.
"You just look so lonely over here, I couldn't help but ask about it!" That didn't help me out in the slightest. She sat down in the empty seat opposite to me, dragging behind a path of cigarette stench. Her giant yellow breasts went wild by the slightest shift in position, and this was no exception. She proceeded to take out a crumbled up piece of paper to write on. "Well anyways, I'm Quizzy, and what can I get the lovely single lady tonight?" I guess it was an attempt at flattery after all.
"I guess... Hm, I'll get a small hot sauce and cheese pizza with 2 shrimp as the topping."
She scribbled down for a hot second and shot back up to say, "...Alright, anything to drink?"
"Got an juices?"
"We've got Coca-Cola products."
"I'll just take a water then."
"...and a Dasani water."
"Oh, there's no need for plastic waste, I can just take tap."
"Honey, it's Coca-Cola products, and that's it."
"A-Alright," I didn't quite know why that would be a problem, but I went with it.
"I'll be back with your order in a bit, sweet thang," and with a flip of her long, wavy blonde locks, she was off and away. I watched as she went behind the beaded curtains to the kitchen. I could really only think of how stunning a girl like couldn't get more than a job than this. I could only imagine it was due to her penguin skills. I guess it would be difficult to work with someone who is so blatant with no real purpose. She was so forward, yet I couldn't help but feel like there was some charm to her because of it. Honesty is always appealing no matter what, and she might just have the right amount to make it big. I believed in her.
