[I will illustrate my story using my dream cast of:  Richard Armitage for Matthew Drake, Kate Beckinsale for Jocelyn Burrows, Brenda Blethyn for Aunt Madge, Michael Crawford for Michael Ferguson, and Gina McKee for Marcia Glass.]

Author’s Mature Content Note:  “Lost & Found” is story with mature themes (D for drama and S for sensuality) of love and relationships.  Most chapters will be PG or PG-13. However, if you are unable or unwilling to attend a movie with the ratings I provide, then please do not read that chapter.  This is my disclaimer.

Recap from the previous installment:  After some negotiation, Jocie, Aunt Madge, and Matthew enjoy lunch at Michael Ferguson’s pub this find Friday afternoon in London, August 13th. Despite Matthew not liking crowds, he sits facing away from the other pub patrons--in between his Aunt and his new friend, Jocelyn.  So Matthew does not mind that the pub is busy.  And Jocie notices a seeming connection between the mature fifty year old woman Aunt Madge and the big bear of a man Michael who is very attentive to their table--and to Madge.  Then when Aunt Madge’s afternoon shop girl unexpectedly calls Aunt Madge to say she can’t come in--and Aunt Madge suggests to Matthew that they might have to cancel his speech therapy appointment to his dismay--Jocie offers to take Matthew to his appointment.   Jocie feels that it is clear from Aunt Madge’s demeanor that Matthew should have an escort. So Jocie’s innate kindness and consideration thrusts her into a situation of helping others--but this time, with a difference.

"Lost & Found" (Revised), Ch. 5: Jocie Escorts Matthew to his Speech Therapy Appointment

After returning to Aunt Madge’s flower shop and exchanging cell phone information--and Aunt Madge giving Jocelyn the address and directions to the speech therapy office along with some pounds for the taxi at Aunt Madge’s insistence--Jocie and Matthew take a taxi there.  They walk into the modern looking medical offices building of glass and steel that dwarfs the tall Matthew [(2) right]  and they take the elevator to the fourteenth floor.  They check-in at the reception desk and wait to be called.  Aunt Madge had helpfully called the doctor’s office ahead of time to let them know that a friend was bringing Matthew to his appointment.  Jocie and Matthew chat amiably while he waits to be called in for his speech therapy appointment.

Jocie:  “So Matthew, this is a very nice building--I like modern design.  It’s so fresh, sleek, and uncomplicated.  Have you been coming here long?”

Matthew:  “Yes, the building is nice.  I first started having weekly speech therapy appointments here since I was released from the hospital over a year ago.”  Matthew still speaks rather blandly--in a monotone, without emotion.  Then he sighs in remembrance for why he was in the hospital--the car accident that left him severely injured and claimed the life of his beloved wife and their precious young son.  “Hhhhh!”

Jocie:  “Ohh.”  Jocie sighs quietly in acknowledgement of Matthew’s loss as she caringly clasps his hand in hers and squeezes.

Though Matthew looks somewhat tired due to his sorrowful face, his energy is not waning and he is holding up his end of the conversation.  And if truth be told, Matthew’s speech therapy appointments focus more on Matthew’s emotional state under the guise of helping him speak more naturally.
