"Mama, I want another story! What happened with the princess?" The little girl looks up with wide eyes at her mother. Her mother laughed.
"What story? The one of pirates and treasure?" The little girl giggles, eyes alive with joy.
"No! What happens with the princess and the Queen!" The little girl screamed as her mother smiled.
"Come, lay down and I'll tell you." The little girl did as she was asked and curled beside her mother.
Alepou and the princess were walking by the docks for the princess enjoyed the sea breeze and scent of salt in the air. A young captain approached the princess, and Alepou didn't growl. He always growls when someone approaches the princess. The captain introduced himself as a trader of the seas. He would travel away for months and return will exotic and expensive gifts for the princess. Slowly through the months they fell in love. They would count the days until they saw each other again. Naturally the Queen saw this. She looked on their love with rage in her stone heart. She waited until the Captain was away before she struck. She sent a witch to curse the princess, stealing away her love for the Captain.
The little girl lets out a gasp and turns to her mother.
"But why?"
"Because the Queen was jealous of the princess. Hush my dear and listen." At her mother's calming words, the little girl tucks herself into the covers and pillows.
The Captain returned to greet his princess when she turned from him. He was heartbroken, having not known what caused her change of heart. Alepou told him what happened and the Captain vowed to avenge his love's heart. The Queen heard of his ridiculous quest and banished him from her kingdom. For years they were apart. Two halves of a whole separated across the world. Until...
The mother's words hang in the air.
"Until what Mama?"
"Until tomorrow. For now, sleep and dream of calm oceans." With her parting words, the mother slides out from the bed and leaves the room.
