Imagine James getting frustrated with something–perhaps a stubborn knot. As his s/o, you're often the one to calm him down.
"James, stop," you'd say, firmly ordering him to show you what he's trying to do. "Just calm down. Here, let me try." He'd step back, taking a calming breath as you fiddle with the troublesome knot.
"You see," he began, "It won't come undone!"
You sighed. Patience is a virtue, love.
"Just hold your horses," you quipped. After a moment, you scowled down at the little source of frustration. "You've got to be kidding me." You turned it this way and that. "Now, I know you want to work with me on this," you told the knot.
Finally, it started to loosen.
"There," you announced, having finished. "And notice how it wasn't until we were both calm that it worked out."
"Yes, very well, you've made your point." Still, he grinned, leaning forward to kiss the top of your head. "Thank you, dearest."
