Michael listened to the sound of her voice on the answering machine. He lost track of how many messages she had left for him. She had been doing this for months. For the first few months, she tried to contact him multiple times a day. She sounded so desperate... Scared...
But as the months went on, he could hear the hope slowly leave her voice. The messages became less frequent as well.
Michael sat on his sofa, waiting for the sound of the phone to start ringing. Like all the other times, he wouldn't answer it.
It had been a week, and still no call from her.
