***"Charlie, see if he has any document," Milan lit a cigarette and exchanged glances with the rider without blinking as if they were competing.
Charlie, the policeman who caught motorcyclists with his partner checked all the pockets on his pants and jacket, checked the inside of the jacket too and then shook his head and moved back a step.
"Why don't you tell me your name? We will find it anyway." Milan stepped closer to hide from the sunshine that was frying that day.
"You said it yourself, you will definitely find it. Otherwise, I have the right to remain silent. "A Cheshire smile appeared on his face.
Milan motioned to Charlie to cuff and stuff him into the car, "Follow me to the station." He sat down at the wheel of his Superb, "I don't know who invented that stupid rule that a suspect can defend himself by silence ...", he tied his belt and started the car.
"Thank to Ernesto Miranda ..." Sebastian turned to the front as Milan stared at him with pulsing vein on his forehead, "We will find out who he is, at least through a fingerprint if nothing else." Sebastian looked worriedly in the rearview mirror. A hopeless exhale escaped his lungs, "What do you think... did they murder Chester together?"
Milan shrugged because he was no longer sure of anything.
They parked in front of the station and a patrol car came behind them.
The frowned man came out with his head bent down out of the back seat and briefly glanced at Milan and changed his focus to Sebastian. His gaze was undefined, which confused Sebastian because he couldn't figure out what it was. But he didn't looked at him same way as he looked at Milan.
"Come on," Milan broke off the awkward silence. Charlie pushed the man toward the door and they went up to the third floor. All the police officers present in the room evaluated the arrested person with some disgust. So much for no police bias ...
"Sit here," Milan angrily pushed his chair toward the handcuffed man. He took a decisive step toward Roger's office as Sebastian was right behind him.
"Sir," he began report as soon as he opened the door, "we have arrested a man we believe is cooperating with Ryan Walsh."
"Yes ... I heard Ryan show up near Portobello Road. Did he manage to foot bail again?" Roger frowned and rubbed his temple, "That bastard ... "
"Yes, but as we were leaving the church when motorbike passed by us, leading us to think that Ryan was running away. Probably this man", Sebastian pointed to the open door, " was a diversion to escape. "
"What church? Actually ... don't tell me just take him to the interrogation room. And let someone get his fingerprint if he doesn't want to bloody say it!" Roger tossed himself into his chair, gesturing for them to go.
George brought a scanner for fingerprints and added it to Milan.
***
"Uncle Derek!" Mackenzie tossed Archibald to the floor and tore herself from Skyla's hand grip.
Sebastian and Milan exchanged views. "Well .. I brought this for nothing ..." George turned on his heel and put the fingerprint scanner back in place.
"Mackenzie ..." Derek's eyes widened and his eyebrows curled, because he was truly happy to see her.
"What are you doing here?" She looked at his handcuffed hands and nodded, "You're playing too, aren't you?"
Derek's gaze traveled to Sebastian's tearful eyes. "Yes. I'm playing."
Mackenzie hugged him around the neck and lowered her head to his, "Why don't you say where Daddy is so we can go home? He is so good in this hide and seek!"
Derek smiled weakly and shook his head, "Yes, he's the best! But...It doesn't work that way, kiddo."
Sebastian stared at the girl and it wasn't clear to him why he was feeling this pressure in his chest. Is it possible for him to look at Mackenzie as ... his own child? He narrowed his eyebrows and shook his head to shake off that thought. But to no avail. He stared at the man in front of him. Handcuffed. What if Ryan and Derek go to jail, what about Mackenzie?
Milan slipped elbow into his ribs imperceptibly and approached to his ear, "Stay in control of your emotions."
Sebastian cleared his throat and motioned to Skyla to take Mackenzie somewhere else, and if that fell hard for him to do. But still, they were dealing with serious business...
Skyla looked at him deadly serious and took the girl's hand, "I'll see you later."
Sebastian just raised an eyebrow and pulled himself a chair. He sat down, across Derek and looked at the face of, at first glance, a soulless man. Now that same man had tears in his eyes. That's what he needed ... Vulnerability.
"I swear to you if Mackenzie is missing even a single hair on her head ..." Derek gritted his teeth as he blinked constantly to ward off tears.
"Then what? You'll kill us as well as Chester? You and your ... brother?" Milan crouched next to Sebastian, resting his hands on knees.
"You are silent again?" Sebastian turned to Milan. "This is getting boring already, isn't it?"
George brought the papers and handed them to Milan, "That's all I found ..."
"What is it?" Sebastian stared at the pile of papers.
"I checked what we got about Derek Walsh ..."
"Thanks George." Milan got to his feet and looked at the papers, "So Derek Walsh .. Ryan Walsh's birth brother ... a professional rally driver as well as a motorbike champion." He looked up and saw dead serious Derek. Again without tears and without a single emotion on his face. "That sounds interesting. And you know what's even more interesting ..." Milan glanced first at Sebastian and then teased Derek, "that you bought a red Ford Focus a year and a half ago ..."
Sebastian twisted his neck to look at the papers, "At last ... something useful!"
Derek got a smirk on his face and shook his head. "Obviously you don't have a full report there," he pointed his head at the bunch of papers Milan was holding "because I destroyed it in the VLN race at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Check the YouTube. It was blast!"
Milan exhaled and looked around. Then he adjusted his suit jacked and rolled up his sleeves and slapped Derek so hard that everyone in the room turned to him, "Check this, you prick ..."
Derek straightened his head and laughed as if he was enjoying, "You're powerless."
