"I'm going to kill the pharaoh!" Standing in an empty park in England was a very angry Bakura and a rather worried Ryou. Ryou would normally try to talk Bakura down from killing the pharaoh but tonight he had other things on his mind.
"Bakura I know you are upset at the pharaoh but please, we need to find Yugi." The pharaoh had rejected the bond between his and Yugi's soul, condemning Yugi to death. In the haze of the horrible pain the bond snapping, Yugi had fled through the shadows. Pure light cannot exist without darkness. Atem had enough magic to sustain himself but, Yugi was going to die if they didn't find him. Bakura and Ryou being the holders of the Ring were sent to find him and see if they could save him.
The ring had lead them to a suburban town somewhere outside of London and was now going haywire. "There is some sort of magical interference. I can't get a pinpoint." Bakura growled out. "I am going to kill the pharaoh"
"Bakura calm down, getting angry is not going to help yugi. We need to think this through." Ryou was right and Bakura knew it so he took a look around. They were near one corner of a rather small and boring park at dusk. Not much was here, some scattered trees, a dinky little play ground in the far corner. At first glance no one seemed to be around, until he spotted a young boy with black hair on a bench a little ways in front of him.
Bakura had just decided to ignore the small black haired boy when there was a spike in the Shadows, probably from the nearby yugi's distress, and the small boy started as if reacting to this. This got Bakura's attention not meany could sense the Shadow magic even though it had been released a year or so ago. So he decided to use the shadows to let him take a little peak at the boy's soul [to judge the boy's aptitude]. Ryou was a bit more hesitant to invade the boy's privacy but Yugi was dying, every little thing could help. He joined his Yami.
They almost thought the boy had no soul for a moment, until they saw it. There was almost nothing left of the boy's soul just a few strands of Light some of the purest they had seen. Ryou was horrified. The shear fact that the boy was alive with so little soul left was astonishing. To strip a soul like this, it takes heavy longterm abuse to wear down a soul and even then it would take multiple traumatic near death experiences to truly shred a soul to peices.
Ryou was so stunned he didn't even notice the purity of the white. Bakura however did. He would know that shade of white anywhere. The white was almost blinding in it's intensity just like Ryou's or Yugi's souls, the soul of a Hikari. He knew this boy wouldn't, no couldn't have lived this long with out something to balance out his soul, espechaly with how little was left. He searched for the darkness that balanced the boy's almost nonexistent soul; there it was. It was a horrible twisted leach of severed soul. Darker than a void, It was repulsive even to Bakura.
While the two white haired boys where distracted by the small black haired boy's soul they didn't notice the Shadows stir once more. They were upset, their master was in pain and dying, they needed to find him a new Yami to help him cast his Shadow. They got him away from their former master. He had cast away his light and in doing so, the Shadows, the Puzzle, and his claim as king. The Shadows had a new king and he was dying. They needed to find a Yami so he could live. The Shadows latched on to the nearest entity who both had room in its soul and the ability to use the Shadows. The small black haired boy.
The two Shadow mages were snapped out of their observations when the Shadows reared up and pounced upon the thing attached to the black haired boy's soul. The boy's head lurched backwards as he let out a silent scream giving the mages full view of impossibly bright green eyes unseeing with pain. The Shadows devoured the splinter of blackness, ripping it to shreds.
When the thing was completely gone the Shadows calmed. They soothed the boy, cocooning him in their cool gentle darkness. The black haired boy tensed at first, then slowly relaxed into the Shadows' embrace. All of a sudden the Shadows started pouring into the emptiness where the rest of the boys soul should have been. They swirled around what was left of his soul encasing it, keeping it safe, healing the boy, and giving him strength.
The moment the Shadows settled the black haired boy snapped up right as if starting awake and turned in the direction of an ally a little ways away.
