Maisie woke up with the sun on her face, making her feel instantly annoyed. She turned her face to her right in an attempt to cover herself from the sunlight when she smelled Avett's scent. She opened her eyes with utter confusion and she saw her girlfriend laying next to her. It took her a while to understand what was happening and remember that she had stayed the night there with her.
When she learned about Ave's illness, she started making plans and within a day, she was nocking on her door in Ireland.
Avett would never admit it, but she was insanely relieved when she saw her after opening the door. But soon that feeling was oppressed by one of doubt. Was Maisie there because she had noticed she loved her and wanted to be by her side going through that terrible moment, or did she just feel pity for her and wanted to make the little she had of life left enjoyable? Ave didn't know, but she really wasn't ready to find out the answer either, because waking up next to Maisie was a pleasure she didn't know how she had been able to live without.
Maisie smiled when she saw Avett open her eyes too, and she snuggled to her neck while she held her closer with her spare arm.
No one dared to say anything, but they didn't need words right now, they didn't need to talk about their relationship then and there, because they had each other and for now, it was the only thing that mattered.
