"Good news Mack" Dad announced as he walked back into the room. "I convinced your Aunt, for you and I to not go snorkelling. We're going to go play golf instead." I'd never played golf, but if it was golf over snorkelling I was all for the idea. The Aunt and the kids were still going out to the island and they were going to meet us later."Thankyou Dad" I said relieved.
We left an hour later and arrived hot and flustered. It was 38 degrees and at 7:30am I was already hot and sweaty.
Dad called his sister an hour later to check in on them. She said that Phiphi Island was beautiful and that we should have come. They said the best part was the helicopter ride over but that Talia wasn't feeling well and that they weren't going to stay long.
9am: An hour later Dad was standing behind me, with his arms around me, teaching me how to putt. I found that I suck at golf, but I was glad to be doing it over snorkelling.
10am: Dad called my Aunt again and she said that they were having a hot chocolate at a cafe but they were leaving after that. They weren't going to call each other again because making calls overseas was really expensive, we were just going to meet them for lunch later. Dad and I had gone out to do a few holes but I really wasn't picking it up. Dad was laughing at me because I had just hit the ball into a bush and we couldn't find it.
The next half an hour would change my life forever.
10:29am: Dad decided that we had had enough and that we would pack up and go home, just as soon as he had had a drink. We walked towards the bar and I was questioning Dad's decision for having a drink at half 10 in the morning. But as he always says 'it's always 5o'clock somewhere!' I don't really get it but if it makes Dad happy then I don't really care.
10:30: Dad ordered a pale ale for himself and a lemonade for me, we sat down at a table looking over the golf course
10:31: Dad makes a joke about how terrible I was at golf. I laugh
10:32: Dad's phone rings
