It was the day when we happened to be lucky. It was the day when we happened to be fortunate when others were not. It was the day that was the 26th of December 2004.

My name is Mackenzie and I'm 11. To young to know what was going on at the time. My Dad's name is Robin, he works at a BIG winery. He's great! It's just me and Dad, Dad and me, It's good. We live in Australia, in the city of Adelaide in a small one storey house just for the two of us. One night late in November, my Dad and I were watching TV, it was a special night because even though I had school the next day I was still up at 10:00pm. It was quiet, too quiet, normally Dad was making raucous comments at the replay of the footy, but he wasn't, he was just sitting and staring blankly at the TV as if it were not even on. Then all at once he sat up and announced, "Mackenzie, we need a holiday."
So it was decided, we would leave on the 20th of December and spend Christmas in Indonesia. Dad also managed to hook my Aunt (my Dad's sister) and my cousins, the twins, into the idea. At first when it was just me and Dad I was really excited but after 'The Aunt' was coming, not so much. I hate my aunt and my aunt hates me. It's a mutual dislike. A hate hate relationship. She doesn't approve of me because her and Dad used to be like peas in a pod, but after mum died he had to spend all his time, when he wasn't at work and I wasn't at school, looking after me, so he only saw her once every few months. I don't think that's a reason to hate someone but apparently she does. And I don't really know why I hate her but she's just generally not a very nice person to anyone but my dad and her kids. While I'm at it to her kids are a pain in the Whatsaname too, so that's why I wasn't really excited for this holiday anymore.

The day came when we were getting on the plane and flying the 8 hour flight from Adelaide airport to Jakarta. I just happened to be seated next to the youngest of the twins, who happened to be the most annoying, who then proceeded to spend the whole flight kicking me, flicking me and licking me. It was the longest 8 hours of my life.
