Interlude

Today would be the last day that he would be a human.

And rather than waiting for the night to come, he wanted to spend this day under the sun.

Kuan went with Kang.

Xi Ze went to the all-girls university in the city to visit a special girl. He could still remember what the handsome boy said to him.

"If I won't make it pass the turning, at least I get to spend my last day with her."

Dylan has the same thoughts. If this will be his last day alive, how is he going to spend it?

He didn't want to see his parents.

He would rather spend his day with 'her.'

But she was locked inside her room again.

He's been pacing back and forth inside his room, trying to come up with a solution on how he could bring her outside. He hasn't perfected his ability yet, and he was afraid something might go wrong if he would insist on using the teleportation technique with her.

Time is of the essence.

He decided to go with the safe option.

He went to see George.

--

"You know my answer. It's a no."

He lowered his head to hide his disappointment. He should have known better. He pursed his lips. Maybe if he was Kuan, the older man would consider his request.

He noticed that these last few days, George was always asking for the company of Kuan. He learned later on that both men were musicians. They have a lot of things in common. And they have a similar taste in music.

He doesn't have ill feelings towards the gentle boy.

Only, winning the favour of the patriarch of the family provides certain advantages. That he was sure.

Like, with his situation right now. Maybe George will allow Yue to go with him for a stroll, that is, if he was Kuan.

With fallen shoulders he turned to leave, only to be stopped by a now-very-curious father.

"I want to know why you want to spend this day with Yue. Is it because Luna is asleep?"

He may be young but he has always been honest, notwithstanding the consequences if there were any.

"Yue is a very insightful girl, I was told. I want to know her too, and not as Luna's twin only."

"But you don't need to get to know her better. You only have to focus on Luna."

Dylan decided to be straightforward.

"Tonight, I am afraid I am going to lose my free will. I will soon be tied to Luna, and she will hold my life in her hands. I just want to do what I want to do, for the last time."

"To say that I am curious about Yue maybe true. But more than that, I wanted to be her friend, too. And I don't see anything wrong with that. It is not as if I have an ulterior motive."

George removed his eyeglasses and threw him a look. "You still didn't answer my question."

He looked down again. "I don't have any more to say." Even he couldn't admit 'the truth' yet to himself.

--

George knew. Been there, done that.

The boy is interested.

But not with Luna.

He welcomed the headache brought about by this sudden request of the favourite Chevalier of the future queen.

Sigh. They will be in hot waters if the elders will know.

But the elders do not have to know.

If he would agree to the request of the young man, there should be a bargain from this.

"Alright. Let's go to Yue's room. I will allow you to accompany her today. She could use some fresh air. But we need to have a deal."

Dylan waited with a bated breath.

"Put this in your head, Dylan. You are for Luna. And you will be for Luna."

"She will own you. And you have to give your loyalty to her and to her alone."
