It hadn't occurred to her that she had to ride all the way to Brentwood with Spooky, until she got in the car and realized how awkward the silence was.
He was leaned back all lax in his seat, one hand on the wheel and the other resting on the back of the seat. Molena wanted it to be a quiet, cordial thirty minute ride to Brentwood. They didn't have to speak, actually she preferred it that way but that didn't mean she wasn't eyeing him from her peripheral.
The way he drove always turned her on like crazy. Part of her wondered if he made this shit up so he could get her to go with him, but he hadn't spoken yet and they really were on their way to Brentwood. He had noticed her staring as soon as he started the engine. She always liked to watch him drive and he had to smirk at the nostalgia.
"What the hell is so funny?" She asked with her hands in her lap, still looking forward.
"Who the hell are you talkin' to?" He asked, eyes still on the road.
"I'm talkin' to you! You think everything is gotdamn joke."
He sucked his teeth and finally glanced at her. "Bro watch your fuckin' mouth."
"I'm not your fucking bro"
"Don't start actin' like a crazy bitch right now. You're in my car because I'm helping you out. Show some damn respect and stop actin' like you don't know who I am."
She looked at him in disbelief. She wasn't sure why she was so surprised though. When they were together, arguments were rare but they got heated quickly. Egos and pride and all that.
The next thing she did she knew would get under his skin.
Molena opened the car door(yes on the highway) and was about to pump fake a tuck and roll when Spooky snatched her forearm towards him, forcing her back in while simultaneously slamming the door.
"Didn't I just say don't act like a crazy bitch!?" What the fuck is wrong witchu!?"
Molena couldn't help but crack up. She thought the turn of conversation was absolutely hilarious.
"You said it's your car, well I don't need your help, Oscar!" She was still giggling and it almost made him crack a smile.
He sucked his teeth instead. "Just keep your crazy ass in the car while it's movin' aight."
The rest of the ride was silent as they pulled up to a giant house but it didn't really stand out because all the houses in Brentwood were giant. She could see Cesar on the lawn in some white kids face, he turned to the car and back to the kid.
"Stay here." Oscar parked his car and got out.
She watched the scene unfold, Oscar licking his finger and rubbing the face of the trembling kid in front of him.
She was speechless and tried not to squeeze her thighs together, but he looked damn good when he got all tough and scary. She groaned and rolled here eyes, annoyed that she was even thinking that after they argued half the way there but there was something about when his nostrils flared and his voice got deep whenever he was mad that made her want to jump his ass. If at some point that night, after that whole ordeal he tried it, she would definitely follow his lead.

The next day, the two sisters were seated at the kitchen table, eating their respective breakfasts. Molena chewed her cornflakes and eyed her sister, who picked at her eggs.Monse had been uncharacteristically quiet since they got home the night before and it was stressing Lena out.
"So, apart from the shitty party you ended up at...how did your night go before that?" Lena tried to leave the question as open as possible so she could talk as much as she wanted.
"It was...it was fun, I had fun." She basically mumbled it, still not looking up from her plate.
Molena huffed and pulled the plate forward out of her reach.
"Jesus Mons, what happened last night? Did something happen with you and Cesar?"
Monse furrowed her brows "No, why would I be thinking about Cesar?" She said quickly, louder than before.
The older sister gave her a pointed look.
Monse huffed at looked down, resting her cheek in her hand. She looked up at her sister again with sad eyes.
"Do you ever wonder..." Molena waited patiently as her sister tried to find her words. "Where do you think mom is right now?"
She wasn't expecting that. She wasn't expecting to be annoyed by it either, but why was her sister so worried about their mother. She obviously wasn't worried about them.
"Is this why you're moping around? You've been thinking about her?"
"You haven't?" Monse genuinely wanted to know how her sister could grow up and go about her life without thinking about their mother. After seeing the woman the night before she was almost sure she had come face to face with the woman that gave birth to her, and since then her mind didn't stop moving. Did she live in Brentwood this whole time?
Did she know that her and Molena lived thirty minutes away this whole time?
If she really took a look at her, would she recognize her own daughter?
"No. I haven't Monse. I don't make a habit of thinking of people who wouldn't waste a second of their time thinking about me." She grabbed her bowl and Her sister's plate and went to the sink.
Monse followed. "How would know if she's thinking about us or not? Maybe she's tried to find us!"
Molena sighed already done with the discussion. "Fine, do you know where she is?"
Monse eyes got wide, worried that her sister somehow knew about the night before.
"No. How would I know that?"
"Exactly. I've lived in this house my entire life and so have you. We've never moved. We've never changed our names or numbers. This is where we've always been and she knows that. She knows where and who we are and never made an effort to see or contact us." Molena sighed. She didn't want to break her sister's spirit but she had to put a nail in the coffin. "If she wanted to see you, she would've. She doesn't want a life that includes us. Period."
Tears rolled down the younger girls cheeks, hoping that her sister's words weren't true.
