It had been about two weeks since you had came into the minecraft world. You still didn't understand how or why, but you loved it here much more than the real world. You were more mentally stable here. The real world is much more harsh than this one.

You wrote Steve a note, since he was at a village trading, that you were going mining. You didn't need to, but it gave you something to do. You were working on a phone in a huge arse underground area, but that was tiring. You couldn't help but wonder what Grian and Mumbo Jumbo were doing in minecraft. They're both actual mad lads. One in building and one in redstone. Freaking mad lads.

Back on track- you left the note before grabbing your iron pick and sword. Steve didn't let you mine alone, he didn't like the idea of it. Buuut he wasn't here, and he knew you could get bored. It may have only been about two weeks, but two weeks is a long time to know a person. Especially when you're with them every day.

You left the mansion and headed off to the nearest cave... which you had no idea where one was, but you'd find it. And find one you did, after an hour. Life isn't easy in the minecraft dimension.

You never dug straight down- that's the first law of minecraft, and you life could actually depend on it. You usually made a staircase, which did give you more stone in the end, which helped. Whilst digging your staircase, you managed to fall into a deeper cave. Looking down wasn't easy when you're mining forwards.

You looked around after stabilizing yourself. There were redstone torches, meaning someone has been here. Recently, which you were able to tell by the clear as day footprints in the gravel and dirt, which left trails on the stone.

Curiosity overtook sensibility and you followed the steps. It led you to a dead end. Well, not really, but they just suddenly stopped. Like someone had teleported, levitated... or turned around. You looked over to your left and sure enough there were some footsteps a few feet away from where these ended. You weren't scared, as it didn't seem like a mob had left these. Come to think of it, there weren't any mobs down here as far as you could see.

You turned around, coming face to face with glowing, white eyes. "Very funny." You said, though if it were a player it wouldn't see your mouth moving. "What's funny?" They said back... their mouth moving.

One word repeated in your head, "run". Where the nether would you run to? Your house that was an hour away? Another cave that possibly had mobs? Anywhere? That'd be a rather idiotic decision.

"Agreed, running wouldn't get you anywhere." He said, slightly smirking. Ah, welp, he can read thoughts. Send every single escape down the drain, he'll know where you went. Well... did you want to die? You joked about it a lot, sure, but did you really? Depression was an odd thing. You didn't want to die, think of all the things you'd miss out on! But also think of all the things you'd miss out on. Like others' death-

"You're rather dark, aren't you?" He slightly mumbled while speaking, but it was clear as day. "No, I'm Grey." You said it before it even processed in your head. A pun? Now? What the Nether?! He... chuckled. He chuckled?! What even- You're in minecraft, why is anything shocking anymore?

"Because it's human instinct." He said, which switched your attention onto something else. "Stop reading my thoughts, they're private, that's why they're thoughts." You said, trying to be at least a bit less terrified. "I don't really control it, it's a natural occurrence." He retaliated.

"Hang on- You're real, you probably brought me here, but why haven't you killed me yet?" You asked, just realizing how weird this was for such a character. He even seemed caught off guard by the question, looking around as if he didn't really have an answer. "I--"

"Grey?! Are you around here?!" You heard Steve scream, which stopped Herobrine mid-sentence. You looked up from the hole and shouted back, "Yeah, just give me a tick!"

You then looked back at Herobrine, "You didn't-" he was gone, "answer... me..." You mumbled, confused. You then bolted back to the surface, not wanting to face anything down here.

Once you got onto stable ground, you were enveloped in a hug. "Oh thank Notch, I thought you got hurt!" Steve said, almost suffocating you in his tight grip. "Stevie- I can't breathe-"

Steve immediately let go after realizing how tightly he was hugging you. "I'm so sorry!" He said, his face slightly red. From what, it wasn't entirely clear, but he was probably flustered due to accidentally harming you.

"It's fine. We should head home, though." You requested, looking back in the cave for a moment before looking back at him. "Did something happen?" He asked, now more alert. "Nonono! I just didn't find anything valuable so I just wanna go home." You replied, hoping to calm him down.

It worked. "Okay, okay, let's go, then." Steve said, still slightly looking around but definitely more calm. You both walked back silently. Not in an awkward silence, more of a "this-scenery-is-nice-lets-pay-attention-to-that" silence.

The walk home wasn't the quickest, but it definitely wasn't the longest. The sun began set once you were a few minutes away, so you both immediately went to bed once inside.

A million thoughts raced through your head as you laid in your bed. Why didn't Herobrine kill you? Why were you the slightest bit laid back? Why did he chuckle? Why was he cute-- no. Nonono. [Daz nu gud]. You didn't like him. You didn't even know him! His eyes were actually kinda cute, and he wasn't bad lookin-- AAAHH, NO! Wait- what if he's reading your thoughts right now? What if he's outside?! Why do you care so much?!

You need sleep. You need sleep right now. You had the urge to look at the window, but you held that back. You needed sleep- and sleep you did.
