Even though Demi was supposed to be getting ready for prom because Naya, Jhene, and Kae would be over to her house soon to take pictures, she had to talk to Trey. They had barely talked in an entire week which was a serious record for them, especially since they had been living in the same house. Demi had gone back to her house just to get ready for tonight because Dianna and Dallas wanted to share that experience with her, but now she was sneaking back over to Trey's to talk to him.
"Demi, why aren't you dressed?" April saw Demi limping past the kitchen and ran out to catch up with her. Her hair, makeup, and nails were done, she just had to put her dress and her shoe on.
"I just have to talk to Trey real quick. I promise I'll be ready on time," Demi promised before speed walking up to his room to the best of her abilities. Trey was fixing his tie that matched Jhene's cream dress when Demi walked in and she paused at the door, waiting for him to notice that she was there.
"You're wearing that to prom?" Demi was in a pair of spandex with a tank top and she rolled her eyes before walking further into the room and closing the door.
"No, I just haven't put my dress on yet. Let me fix that," Demi grabbed his tie and fixed the knot around his neck, straightening it and smoothing it down before she stepped away.
"You finally got the balls to ask Jhene to prom," Demi had laughed harder than she had in her entire life when Jhene told her about how Trey had asked her to prom. It was just like him to do something super cheesy like that.
"Yeah and you were right about her really wanting to go with me," Trey said as Demi shrugged.
"I know."
"So what's up? Why are you over here instead of getting dressed?" It was quiet in the room and Demi tucked one of her stray hairs behind her ear, clearing her throat before she spoke.
"Namiko...when I was babysitting her, she told me that Jhene is afraid of you hurting her because she thinks you're in love with me. That's why I didn't want to talk about that night we kissed because Jhene and Drake are just two innocent bystanders to this situation that we're avoiding and I don't want them to get hurt," Demi explained, already on the verge of tears but reminding herself that she had paid a lot of money to get her makeup flawlessly done and she couldn't afford to mess it up.
Trey looked up from the floor and narrowed his eyes. How could Jhene tell that he was in love with Demi? He wasn't, but still. What made her believe that?
"Even if you don't have feelings for me, I've kind of been staying away because if you do, I want you to get over them. You can't hurt Jhene, Trey. She doesn't deserve it," Demi continued on once she realized that Trey wasn't saying anything.
"That's all I wanted to say. I'll see you when it's time to take pictures," Demi stood up to leave but Trey grabbed her wrist and pulled her back into him. He turned her around and let his chocolate irises pierce into hers.
"Demi-" his voice cracked and he swallowed down his insecurities.
"No, Trey," she pushed his hands off of her and shook her head. "I'm not that type of person and you know that. Tonight you're going to prom with Jhene and you guys are gonna be the King and Queen and she'll be your girlfriend and I'll be your best friend and that's how it's supposed to be. That's how I want it to be," the last part was mostly to convince herself and she sucked in a deep breath before backing away.
"I'll see you when it's time to take pictures," she cast a smile to him before exiting his room and going back to her house to finish getting ready. By the time Dallas had helped her into her dress and made sure that her cast was covered, everyone was downstairs ready to take pictures. Dallas helped her down the stairs and once she landed, she saw Jhene, Trey, Naya, Sean, Chris, Kae, and Drake all in her living room.
"Well it's about time," Kae hissed but Demi just shrugged her off. Drake met her at the bottom of the stairs and when he gave her the purple and silver corsage, her mom and sister began to squeal and take pictures of the two of them.
"You look breathtaking," Drake breathed out, capturing her lips in a kiss. When he pulled away Demi couldn't stop smiling.
"You clean up very well, Aubrey," he playfully rolled his eyes at his name and they walked over to the rest of their friends to take pictures. Demi was wearing a simple but elegant floor length purple gown that accented her curves but didn't hug her body too right. Jhene was in a unique cream dress that was covered in lace and completely unique. No one else would have a dress like that at prom. And Naya was in a sexy black one piece with slits on the shoulders and on her sides. They all looked good.
All of the couples took pictures and then they all took pictures as a group, then the girls took a group picture, and then the boys did before the parents started yelling out for special requests.
"Can I get a picture of Trey, Demi, and Chris?" Demi released Drake's hand and wobbled over to the fireplace, posing in between Chris and Trey with a wide smile on her face.
"Just Trey and Demi now," Trey glared at his mom because he knew exactly what she was doing. Demi turned around and pressed her backside against Trey's front, and he comfortably wrapped his arm around her waist. They looked so natural posing together, like they fit together just right and everyone knew it.
The limo was there and it was time to head off to prom. Naya double checked her small handbag for condoms and lipgloss while Demi made sure that they had their after hour passes for Disneyland. Chris and Kae weren't coming and Naya and Sean had booked a hotel suite for the night so it would just be her and Drake and Jhene and Trey.
"Hey, have a good time sis," Dallas hugged Demi and squeezed her shoulders as Demi nodded before heading off with Drake. She was trying to make herself excited for tonight but she just couldn't be and she didn't know why.
They were an hour into the dance and everyone was finally having a good time, even Demi. She had danced with all of her friends, even with her boot on. She had shared a cute slow dance with Drake and he kissed her like she was his entire world. Jhene seemed ecstatic to be with Trey and they looked really cute together. They were all sitting down for dinner, waiting for the King and Queen to be announced. After dinner they were just gonna head to Disneyland so that they wouldn't miss the fireworks.
"Your 2015 Prom King is," their principle opened the envelope while one of the student council members held the crown.
"Tremaine Neverson," the room broke out in applause and Trey cockily smiled, bumping fists with Chris and Sean and kissing Jhene on the lips before walking onto the stage to get crowned. Demi clapped and kept a simple smile on her face while they moved on to announced Prom Queen.
"And your 2015 Prom Queen is Demetria Lovato."
"AAYYYY!" Chris screamed as Demi laughed and went up to accept her crown. Of course her walk was all weird and she was holding her dress so that she wouldn't trip. Trey walked to the edge of the stage and helped her up the steps, briefly hugging her before she went to get crowned.
"If you could clear the dance floor for the King and Queen, I've got the perfect song for them," Trey helped Demi down the stairs and lead her onto the cleared dance floor. He kept his eyes on her but she was avoiding his smothering gaze.
Fall by Justin Bieber began to play and Demi glared at the DJ but he pointed towards their table and she flicked off Naya, Sean, and Chris. Trey wrapped his arms around her waist and she wrapped hers around his neck. He pulled her closer because she was too far away for their liking and they began to sway to the lyrics.
"Describes us perfectly," Trey whispered, thinking that Demi couldn't hear him because of the music.
"We're not in love, Trey," her voice went up an octave and she focused on his cream tie instead of looking into his eyes.
"We could be if you would let me love you the way that I want to," Demi stopped and pulled away from him as the song ended. Trey gave her a curteous nod before going back to the table to get ready to head to Disneyland, leaving Demi alone in the middle of the dance floor.
Did you know that I loved or were you not aware?
