“Aubrey is in the hospital. She says her ex boyfriend is also there. I’m not exactly sure what she means by that though.” I trail off waiting for Skye to respond. I’ve started calling her that now even though she doesn’t know. It’s just easier for Dexter and I.

“So she’s not in a coma if she knows he’s there?”

“Apparently not.”

         “Let’s go then. Get Dexter.”

While the ambulance was picking up Aubrey, Dexter had to hide because he was involved with the cops back in New York and he couldn’t risk being seen. We went to a shitty motel after that and waited for news on her from the hospital. We also took turns napping since it was around three in the morning.

“Why not you, you like him.”

“Because, you’re his brother. Go wake him up so we can leave.”

         “Whatever Skye.”

“Excuse me, but um yeah that’s not my name, who told you, you could call me that?”

“Oh stop playing Skye, Dexter told me everything. I know your name’s not Kimy, I know he likes you, I know you only think of me as a brother, I know that the past couple of years together have all been lies. You lied to my Kimy or Skye or whatever, I don’t even care anymore. Do what you want. Date him, marry him, love him, I hope you guys are happy. Just leave me out of everything.”

“What are you talking about? Dexter told you about all this? Dexter told you he likes me? Not all of it was a lie.” She says shamefully.

“Just forget I said anything, I’ll go get him.”

We all got to the hospital just as this splattered looking kid was wheeled into the emergency room on a gurney. I kind of recognized him but nothing rang a bell, I think it was his facial features that made him stick out in my mind. We checked in with the front desk ladies and then went to Aubrey’s room where she was crying.

Dexter immediately ran to the side of her bed. “What’s wrong Aubrey?” He obviously is very upset right now.

“Don’t worry about it.” Aubrey chokes out in between tears.

“Dexter…” I trail off, choking up myself, greatly jealous of the fact that she has all his attention.

“Stop being a baby Dexter.” Dane says annoyed.

“Can we all please be quiet?” Aubrey choked out again. “I’ll be fine after I let myself calm down.” She speaks steadier.

“Please let her calm down guys.” Dexter politely demands, “Do you need us to give you a few minutes? We could run and get some coffee or something.” He questions to the frail girl lying pail, blue-lipped, and small in the enormous bed that looks as if it’s a piece of machinery. I feel bad for her being under so much pressure and yet being waited on hand and foot.

“Please pick me up a couple magazines, it seems as if I’ll be spending quite a few days in here. There’s money in my bag on the chair over there.” As she point Dexter grabs both Dane and I’s hands and pays no attention to where she’s pointing. He doesn’t want her to have to pay. “Please, just take the money,” She starts choking up again so Dexter goes to the bag and grabs her wallet and we all walk out as she whispers, “Bye.”

We all climb into the sleek, clean car and peel out of the parking lot. As I drive I start to open up Aubrey’s wallet, only paying half attention. Aubrey’s bag was found in the bathroom stall with her when I originally met her. As I opened the wallet a picture of some guy fell out, I had to pull over. He looks familiar, he’s Zander. I realize that Zander is the boy we saw being wheeled into the emergency room when we first went. That’s why she was crying, something must have happened to make him get that way and it upset her, Dane did say her ex boyfriend was there.

“Um, hello! Dexter drive.” Dane pushes the words out of his mouth, realizing something’s up. “Um, well, unless we want to sit here all day. Besides, anything that you’re not feeling right about, we can figure out back at the hospital, I don’t really like just sitting here in the car.”

“Okay. Okay I’m going. I’ll figure this out, no worries.” I do this kind of half smile though I know it appears so fake.

I start driving again, going to pick up the things Aubrey requested. Soon enough we’re all back at the hospital and hopefully safe for now.

I know all of them are there, at the hospital. No family knows, no family of theirs cares enough to know. They all know they’re useless to everyone but me. I need them, they don’t realize how much. I have to catch them and make sure they don’t slip away again. They’re going to tear each other apart since they’re all together. It’ll make it easier for me if anything. They should know by now why I kept them apart, they don’t know though that they were all kept in the same place just distance apart. Once they’re all butt hurt from each other it’ll be easier for me and they’ll be back with me.
