A few weeks passed and Morgana saw nothing of Aithusa. Camelot had very little disturbance as well, so all was peaceful. Arthur and Gwen went for a few rides though the forest and spent some time together.

One night, Morgana had woken suddenly after a nightmare. This vision hadn’t shown much that made sense- it was a battle, but it didn’t seem relevant to the present time. After looking out of her window for a little while, Morgana took a walk around to the battlements.

It was as she set foot along there that she heard her name being called. Morgana looked around quickly, although she felt that no one had called her out loud. It felt as though it had come from her mind.

She felt compelled to walk further, so did. There was someone stood at the other and Morgana stopped at once.

“Who are you?” She called cautiously. The figure turned around and Morgana felt she recognised him. Then she looked into piercing blue eyes and gasped in delight. “Mordred!”

“Hello again, Morgana.” His words spoke to her mind again and they both smiled at each other.

“What are you doing here? I haven’t seen you in...five years.” Morgana used telepathy in reply as well as she thought about how much time had passed.

Mordred smiled at her. “I missed you and I haven’t seen you in a long time. I wanted to make sure you’re alright.”

“I’ve missed you as well. I’m fine though.” She paused for a moment. “The Druids...know things about people, don’t you?”

Mordred smiled again. “I know you have magic that’s gotten stronger since our last meeting. There are a few people in Camelot with magic as well because I can sense it. Why do you ask?”

“I want to get rid of someone. He’s supposed to be...my doom and I haven’t found him yet. His name is Emrys.”

There was a long pause while Mordred took this in and then he frowned. “Emrys? But why haven’t you killed him yet?”

“I just told you! I don’t know who is.” Morgana stopped as Mordred shook his head at her words.

“But that’s crazy! You do know Emrys. You used to be friends with him and he’s still here in Camelot. Inside the castle.”

Morgana gasped and turned to face the castle. It was still in darkness, as it was the early hours of the morning. Her mind was racing as she tried to think of anyone she knew who had magic.

Gaius did, of course, but she’d known him since she’d been a little girl. Arthur definitely didn’t. The thought made her smile a little. Any of the Knights were possible, but Morgana highly doubted it. That only left Merlin, and it couldn’t be him. He’d been annoying in the past but he was loyal to Arthur, after all.

But he had tried to poison her...

“Mordred, have you seen Emrys before? Was he here when I looked after you that time? When we first met?”

He thought for a few seconds and nodded. “Yes. He’s...well, he was, a servant here. I don’t know if he still is.”

Morgana went pale and then she shivered, though it wasn’t cold. It must be him. There was no one else. She slowly replied: “Yes, well he is. He’s Arthur’s servant.”

Mordred nodded. “He also tried to heal me but it didn’t work. I don’t know if you remember.”

Morgana remembered very well. She was in a small state of shock. “Merlin.” Suddenly saying his name out loud like that made things concrete, and perfectly clear. “Merlin is Emrys. Merlin has magic.”

“Apparently. If...that’s who you think he is.” Mordred said, watching her closely, feeling worried for her.

Morgana smiled and looked at him again. “Oh yes. I know it’s Merlin. So will everyone else soon.”

“I’ll help you, if you want me to.”

Morgana looked at the druid, who had grown up so much since they’d last seen each other, and hugged him. She smiled again and turned to face the castle.

“That would be great. Thank you, Mordred.”

Then they went into the forest to plan.
