"You never asked me what my ability was." He began, his face looking questionable as he tilted his head to the side.  "How come?"

John stared, showing no sign of movement to the sudden 180° question. Gene had grown anxious for a response and kept his full attention at John's face, not knowing whether to change the conversation or make up an excuse to go to the bathroom.
Instead, John just shrugged. His eyes hadn't even blinked once.

"Didn't really think it mattered." The raven haired said, and continued walking. Which to much dismay, left Gene standing there dumbfounded. Gene had clicked his tongue, trying to process what had just happened. 'Didn't really think it mattered.' For some reason those words replayed through his brain. Usually, people go crazy for the new students, awaiting too see what power you held. But John, he was different, and something about it makes his interest rise up quickly.  He smirked widely, looking forward to where this school year was gonna lead him too.

Gene figured that he would skip lunch on his first day, he wasn't really in the mood to hear plates flying across the room. Maybe even worse, people.  He spent hours memorizing his new schedule, he even walked around the whole school to find his exact classes,  retracing his routine from getting from class to class.  It was exhausting, but he managed to get through it.  After a few minutes, he had found a staircase that lead to a door that had daylight on the other side. Eh? What's the worse that could happen?  He thought.

He opened the door, revealing a girl leaning on her backside towards the fence with a juice box in her hand.  She seemed startled, almost dropping her phone but quickly regained her stature.  Gene was gonna apologize for interrupting whatever she had been doing but the girls glare looked like she was about to rip his head off. Which only led for her to speak up first.

"Who the hell are you?"

"I-uh.." He had somehow manage to loose his words as her glare only grew deeper. His throat felt a bit scratchy and coughed rather loudly.  She began to look impatient.

"Sorry, um. I'm Gene." He finally said.  The girl across him dropped her semi-attack stance and let out a sigh of relief making Gene confused once again.

"Right! shit yeah, I know who are." She said taking a few steps forward.  "John texted me to let me know about the new kid."

"Oh," he paused. "I'm sorry but you are...?"

She gave a soft smile, barely even noticeable. "Seraphina." His eyes grew wide.  Yeah he definitely who this was.  The schools Ace, who used to be Wellston's Queen.  He had heard from his previous school about the girl who won all of Turf Wars battles throughout the years who was gifted with a remarkable ability.  Though, for the past year it's like she disappeared from the map and stopped attending Turf Wars.  Maybe she was dethroned or something?  I doubt it though. He bowed immediately, slightly embarrassed that he almost fell while doing it.

Seraphina frowned at the action.  "No need for that, not my kinda thing."  She walked to him and held out her hand.  Gene looked at her hand a bit shocked but kindly accepted it and was lifted up from the awkward position. "Sorry about that." He apologized again.

"Don't sweat it." She shrugged looking back down at her phone.  Leaving both of them in silence.

"There you are!"  Is what broke the awkwardness.  It came from John who stood at the door with his stupid hair helmet that looked greasier then ever.  That wasn't the main concerning thing though.  His sleeves were pulled showing a long blue cast and a couple of scratches on his face. "Broke my arm."

"Pfft." Seraphina chuckles leaving Gene baffled. "Sucks for you. Well I gotta get to class" She said, walking towards the door. "But I'll remember not to wait for you when school is over."

She continued walking until a hand grabbed her shoulder, stopping her tracks. "Who are you kidding? You never go to class." John smirked.

"..."

"Come on, help a friend out! Keep me company." He suggested and with that she sighed and took out her phone to play Slappy Pig. "Who said Gene couldn't keep you company?" She finally said, not looking up from her phone.

"Least' let me get to know the guy first." He laughed. "How you know he ain't a murder?" He turned his attention the new kid. "Your not a murder are you?"

Gene stood there bewildered, not really finding himself to speak up. Gosh these people are weird, not a bad weird though just...weird. Well if I'm being honest, who isn't? "No, I'm not a murder." He found the question humorous and laughed along as well.

Guess I can get used to this.

Yeah I probably won't be making as much as long chapters as I thought, I guess I just can't. Not really used to it. Anywho, I haven't wrote in a while and took a break but I'm back!
