The woman, quick and nimble, bounded across towards the gramophone switching it off, her breath was rapid and I stood still watching her not knowing what to do.

She turned towards me and smiled. It never reached her eyes but all the same it was a smile and somehow it made me feel better.

She sat down on my bed her long fingers reaching out to grasp mine.

"You have your dad's eyes" Her voice was so warm and comforting it took me by surprise.

"You have school tomorrow you better get into bed "she muttered "There is food down in the kitchen if you are hungry" with that she slowly got up moving across towards the door

"Goodnight" I called out but got no reply.

I decided that I was not hungry and got in to bed without changing. The comforter was so fluffy and soft, the pillows on the bed were overwhelming. The darkness soon over took me

I moaned from the tapping sun-light against my face, wondering how long I'd been sleeping. I blinked, shut my eyes, and blinked again. Yawned, then I managed to fully open my eyes. My mind was fuzzy the last remains of a dream being chased away by the realisation that I'm awake again. It was a nice dream, something about me sitting in an oak tree meadow full of flowers but the details where fading fast even as I tried to recall them. I rubbed my eyes, the bright sunlight sliced the room in half and I could make out the dust-motes dancing in the wall of light. I pulled the duvet up over my head to keep it out but it didn't work my brain was fully awake. I reached for my comb to untangle the morning knots in my curly brown hair. I remembered that I had to go school today and moaned. I had a quick shower. I went over to my suitcase which was downstairs and looked through it. I picked out dark blue jeans and wrapped my favourite black leather jacket around me. Brushing my hair with my fingers and applying a bit of make-up I went downstairs into the kitchen

"Grandma?" I managed to call out

No replay then after a few seconds

"I'm here" she replied her voice low and musky "Go all the way down the lane, turn left you should see the school sign called Black Cross" she looked hard at me with her dark eyes burning into my bright ones.

I gave her half a smile waving bye, walking through the front crippled front door.

I begun to make my way down the lane and couldn't help but stare at the houses They were old, like 1865 era old. They probably had mould growing out of every tiled floor. They were large yes, and they all had front lawns. Some more well-kept then others. No house had a twin. They were all similar looking. Clearly because they were from the same time period. They were all dully coloured. I did as grandma asked and turned right and my new school stood in front of me. The paint looked brand new but it was weathered and peeling in some spots. The slates in the shutters on the windows were mostly broken out, A slight breeze made the shutters tap against the school and the hinges squeaked. The main front door was littered with debris and past that I could make out a staircase; I took a deep breath and strode through the front door being welcomed by a gash of strong winds. Time seemed to have stopped as I stood there staring into space.

I could peer all the way to the end of the hallway, to the barely illuminated double doors that led to the cafeteria. The couple of dim lights left on overnight reflected off of the freshly waxed tiles. it was strange to see a place that should hold so much energy look so dull and empty, there was no one in sight. The reverb and echoes from my footsteps made me feel uneasy. I felt exposed, with no room to duck into, no stairs to take. I just had to focus on those double doors at the end of the hallway.

"You should be in class" the voice was loud and seemingly shook the hallway. It reverberated long after the sentence was said and I had not heard such threatening sound in my life.

I looked up and saw an old man staring down at me

His skin was wrinkly and white. His eyes blood shot and covered by his grey, greasy hair that stuck to his head like a giant fuzz ball. He was like a bag of bones and his black, ripped clothing hung off him. When he spoke it revealed his yellow teeth and let his smelly breathe escape like a cloud of smoke. On his wrinkly fingers, his finger nails were long and muddy. "Go to your class" his voice barely a whisper I ran down the hallway away from him bumping into a small scurrying figure

"Are you Deborah Ellwood" the figure asked turning around to revel a small woman with a kind looking face

"Yes that's me" I replied shifting in my spot

She dragged me by the sleeves of my jacket pushing me inside a classroom

Before I could protest she left, leaving me standing in front of twenty or more students staring at me.

I quickly made my way to a empty set taking of my jacket, taking my books out.

"I don't think you should sit there" whispered someone from behind me I turned around and there behind me was a girl with long wavy blonde hair and bright clear blue eyes studying me.

I pulled my hair back and ignored her and looked up to the board the teacher was slumped across the chair scribbling away.

Then the door of the class room swung open... And that's when I saw him. I gasped. I watched as his head lifted up and as he carelessly swept his fringe over revealing his bright blue eyes.

He strode in revealing his long legs, covered with black jeans. His brown hair shone like a bulb of light and his smile made me melt. However it almost instantly turned into a scowl

"Move out of my seat" he said his voice was flowing and demanding at the same time.
