Friday, the day that was incredibly dull after the exciting but also anxiety filled Halloween... Yes, a Thursday managed to be better than a Friday. It's just so boring wearing a school uniform everyday! Not only that, but there's no, 'I saw my friend wearing this hoodie, so I'll look for her hoodie and pick her out from the crowd.' Nope. You better hope you know the back of your friend perfectly.

I'm average height, but right now I looked tiny compared to the crowd I was going through. Some kids splitting off to catch their bus, walking home, loitering around, or looking for their parents car like I was. Eventually all of the kids dispersed, so I sat against a tree, texting my parents to find out if they were picking me up. Surprise, surprise. They weren't.

Ever since Mom's been pregnant, I've stopped being picked up. She's like, what, two months pregnant, and Dad insists to be by her side, specifically when I need to be driven anywhere. It's so irritating!

The day's have been getting colder, and walking home just wasn't appealing to me. I sighed before finally getting up to make my way home, when I heard the crunch of leaves behind me. I turned around and saw Gene. "Have your parents also abandoned you?" I asked.

"Nah. My mom picked Dante up, but I wanted to look for you, and since you're not being driven home... Wanna walk together?" Gene held out his hand, and I accepted his offer by interlocking my fingers with his. I was feeling bold, so I walked super close to him while we were walking, causing us to occasionally brush against each other.

Suddenly, he stopped walking after squeezing my hand tight, so I stopped walking too. "What's up?" I turned my head to look at him.

"There's...a snake," Gene informed.

I shook my head. "There's no snakes in Alas-" My eyes followed where Gene pointed, and up ahead on the sidewalk was a snake.

I looked back at Gene as he began talking. "Well, we aren't even in Alaska, hence why there's a snake right there. Also, bringing up Alaska is really random." Gene let go of my hand to ruffle my hair. I grabbed his arm and brought it back down.

"Do you want me to be viciously ridiculed by my parents?" I straightened out my hair. "Oh, and a bit late cause the snake slithered away into the bushes, but there's a snake in my boot."

Gene cracked a smile, and I grinned alongside him. Seconds later, he moved a few strands of hair behind my ear before leaning in. I closed my eyes before realizing...no kissing before saying that we're dating! And so, I opened my eyes and I caused our foreheads to collide.

"Oh." Gene was a bright red.

I sheepishly laughed. "I ruin all the moments." My body felt pretty warm, sending me the signal that I was blushing too. "So I really like you, and-"

Without letting me finish off explaining, Gene said the exact words I wanted to hear. "Will...you be my girlfriend?"

I started shaking similar to how a child stupidly shakes a bottle of soda. At the same time, I was nodding furiously and totally grinning like an idiot.

He pulled me in and kissed me, making butterflies in my stomach go about wildly. I'm someone's girlfriend!! I'M GENE'S FREAKING GIRLFRIEND AHHH!!! I feel as though being asked out on a sidewalk after encountering a snake suits me. Completely random, just like me most of the time. "So...what now?" I laughed sheepishly.

"We continue on to your house," Gene answered. "Then... Well, what do you want to do?"

"Actually, since we've known each other, things have revolved around me quite a bit. Let's put you first. My way of passing time is the more...boring one." I admitted.
