As I began to wake up I could hear a faint sound of what sounded like an EKG and a boy who was talking to someone, possibly on the phone. My eyes started to flutter open. I could feel someone holding my hand in theirs.
"Chris..is..is that you?" I tried to say aloud but it turned into a whisper. I could feel the person quickly remove their hand from mine.
"No...he couldn't make it. Your mom is on her way" He quickly said.
It was to bright to fully open my eyes. So I couldn't see who this guy was, but I remember his voice. "Can you please turn off my light, I want to see who you are" I said.
I heard a chair scrape across the floor and shoes squeak. I began to look up as the lights were dimmed to a very low setting.
"Who are you?" I said puzzled.
"My name is Austin. I'm the one who...who made you end up in this room. I'm so sorry. I should leave." He said as he grabbed his bag and walked to the door.
I went to sit up "Wait, no...please stay, I don't want to be alone." My vision was becoming blurry again. I decided to lay back down as Austin began to speak. "The nurse said you shouldn't try to sit up. You lost so much blood when you fell onto the rock that you could have possibly died" he said. I noticed his eyes begin to tear as he went to sit back in the chair by my bed.
I moved my hand towards his. "Don't be sad. You never meant to hurt me. I'm still alive...Austin, you saved me & for that I'm thankful." He looked up at me. I couldn't tell what his next move could possibly be. He took his hand out from underneath mine and began to raise it. Was he going to hit me? No, he couldn't. I closed my eyes expecting pain. But when his hand reached my face, it didn't sting. It was a sweet touch. I could feel his finger tip trace my jawline. My eyes shot back open and he quickly pulled away.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have touched you. I don't know what came over me" Austin said quietly. His glance met mine and we stared at one another as if we were reading each other's minds. I could feel myself getting lost into his eyes. His eyes were a beautiful shade of brown like a caramel.
"Hello" I heard someone say.
"Mom?" I said. Still staring at Austin.
"Oh darling" she walked over to me and leaned between Austin & I "Thank god, you're ok". She kissed my forehead.
Looking for Austin's beautiful eyes. I saw someone else walk into the room. Someone with a beautiful silhouette. She was wearing a work suit and high heels. We all turned.
"Mom, you came." Austin said as he stood up. His mom opened her arms to hug her son. He looked at me embarrassed once his mom left their embrace. "Of course. I had to see why you couldn't make it school. I also brought those flowers you asked for...a dozen white roses?" His mom said. Austin blushed and all the sudden all eyes were on me. His mom handed Austin the roses, he stared at the them and handed them to me as he sat back in the chair. Silence was still in the room. Breaking the silence my mom walked up to Austin's mom. "Well then I must introduce myself my name is Josephine and this is my daughter Jailyn." She reached for Austin's mom's hand.
"My name is Lucy...and this is my son Austin" she said as she shuck my moms hand.
Austin and I looked at each other and then to our moms.
"I was about to get some food for our kids, maybe you'd like to tag along?" Lucy said. Our moms looked at us kids sternly giving us a "behave" kind of look as they left the room. "I'll be back, call me if you need me." My mom said closing the door half way.
Austin watched them as they left the room & stood up and began to take off his Hollister sweatshirt. My eyes were staring at his extremely toned arms.
"So" he began to say "Tell me about yourself, I think we may be alone for awhile." Austin smirked as he realized that I have no way out of this conversation.
I hand Austin the beautiful flowers and motion him to put them next to me on the table. "Well, let's see. You know my name...oh, I moved here from Florida. My parents are divorced. My first day here in Michigan is awful. I nearly almost died. You saved my life. I missed school...oh and I'm freezing my ass off." I said shivering. Oh how these blankets are shitty.
Austin motioned me to move over. I slowly made my way closer to the IV's that I just realized were hooked to my arm. My body began to fill with pain, I winced. Austin laid into the hospital bed with me and pulled his sweatshirt over me as he wrapped his arm around my shoulder. "Is this better?" He asked. Glancing up at his face I realized he was actually hitting on me. Me? Me! No way. I glanced behind him at the clock and realized it's almost 7pm. Wow, time has flied. I began to yawn. Must be the meds, I thought. "If your tired you can fall asleep, I promise I won't leave you." Austin said. I glanced up at him. My eyes full of fear that he's lying. But then I noticed a glisten in his eye. Is he...no he isn't. He leaned down and kissed my forehead. "I promise Jailyn." I leaned my forehead onto his chest. "Good, I don't want to be alone" I said. Placing my extra pillow on his chest, he brushes the hair out of my face and placed his hand onto mine. Gosh, how warm he is. From there, I fell into a deep sleep.
