He sat up and rubbed at his eyes in frustration, blood dripping in its usual stream down his nose. "Damn," was all he could mutter. He could feel the tingling in his skull still. It pulsed the dull remnants of his failure.
Levi wiped a hand over his mouth. It came away stained red as he expected, but the blood still made his stomach lurch. He could smell the eggs cooking in the kitchen and regretted trying to use his ability so early in the morning.
He wiped the hand across his jeans- they were still filthy from the night before. As the flashbacks played behind his closed eyelids, there was a gentle knock on the door. He started slightly. "Who is it?"
"Kali."
"Oh. Yeah, come in."
She opened the door slowly, giving him a small smile as she did so. Her eyeliner was smeared as she sat on his bed. He cupped her cheek softly and kissed her, trying not to cringe at the taste of blood on her lip.
She broke apart from him, small gasps escaping her lips. Their foreheads rested against one another and their hands were entangled between them.
"Still haven't found her yet, huh?"
Levi broke apart then. His heart was heavy as he shook his head. She smiled sadly and rubbed a hand up his arm. "You will, Levi. I promise."
"When, Kali? Everyone's been promising this shit for years- years! I can hear her, I hope...I hope she hears me."
Kali's smile dropped and her face became serious.
"She...hear you? Levi, that's not-"
"Not my ability. I know. But sometimes I swear she turns her head and I can see her, I can see the look in her eyes and I just-"

The phone rang for the fifth time that morning.
Lydia groaned into her pillow, throwing the second one over her head to drown out the noise. That seemed to only work for a good ten seconds before the dim noise bounced around in her ears once more.
"For fucks sake!" She threw the pillow and blanket off her, climbing up and walking into the hall to grab the phone. The cord could stretch to her room, and she took it in there before saying anything.
"Who the hell is this? Are you aware of what time it is?"
"Lydia."
Nancy's voice was shaking, but clear enough to were Lydia could tell it was her.
"Drew? Why the hell are you calling me?"
"It's just... I gotta do something. Something big. I'm not sure how it's going to e-end. I don't know why I called but..."
Lydia stayed silent on the line but her heart pounded painfully in her chest. "Drew, what are you blabbering about?"
There was no answer but the click of the phone into the receiver. Lydia stood still, vaguely aware of how slippery the handset had become in her sweaty palms.
She ran back to her room and sat with her legs crossed on her bed. It made her feel like she was in elementary school again.
Squeezing her eyes shut, she thought of Eleven, willing her mind to pull up the image of the girl. Just as she was about to stop out of frustration she heard a scream from the other side of her mind. She flew back, yelling in surprise as she fell flat on her ass. Water splashed around her, pooling around her sides and already soaking her shorts. Her bad hand ached at the weight of her fall.
Her eyes were open- at least, she could see. It was black, with no one in sight. The screaming continued however and that propelled Lydia up to her feet and running in that direction.
She felt like she could be running for eternity before she finally noticed something out of the corner of her eye. Someone was curled on the ground, rocking themselves back and forth. They shook violently and Lydia had to take a few steps closer to realize they were crying.
It was Eleven.
Lydia walked slowly to the girl, her feet moving without her control. Eleven was lying there, sobbing with blood pooling slowly on her upper lip. Lydia bent down to her knees in the water.
"Eleven?"
The girl shot up with a shriek, startling Lydia so badly she fell back once more. Eleven's large brown eyes watched her in fear and disbelief. Lydia could only stare back with what she assumed to be a mirrored expression.
Eleven didn't say anything. She moved onto her knees and crawled to Lydia instead. Lydia noticed the way her hair had grown out to curl, and how she wore clothes much too big for her. Where was she, and who's clothes were those?
Eleven finally reached her, sitting back on her feet as she did so. She lifted her arm and extended it to Lydia, attempting to connect their fingers. Lydia grasped the hand and gasped as her vision went white.
Her head pounded ferociously as she opened her eyes. She was back in her bedroom, and was dry. Blood poured from her nose thickly, and she felt her eyes burn as blood ran like tears.
She didn't have time to dwell on this however- she had to get to Eleven, and she had to get there fast. The young girl hadn't need to say a word for Lydia to know her inner turmoil, the plans she was making.
And Lydia planned to follow her as well.
