It was 10 years after Alec died.

Catarina got a call from a warlock friend of hers about her adopted son's birthday party.  She went to the party, mostly out of curiosity, since she had never met the child and she heard she had adopted a girl as well. She walked into the apartment and was immediately welcomed by her friend, who ushered her into the living room and encouraged her to interact with the guests. She had some small talk, and then the birthday boy walked in, with a girl a few years younger trailing confidently behind him. There was a certain familiarity about the two of them, but she couldn't put her finger on it. His mother introduced him and the girl to a few party guests before coming to her.

"Catarina," she said, "this is Alec and his sister Izzy."

"Hi," Izzy said, and she yanked on Alec's tail, which had the stripes of the tiger.

Alec yelped, and then mumbled a welcome. He shot his sister a death glare. She responded by sticking out her tongue, which was forked like a snake's. It was then that she figured it out.

"The Lightwoods," she breathed.

"Who?" their mother said.

Catarina shook her head. After all, how could she explain that she had known Alec and Izzy in their past life?

"Nothing," she said. "Don't mind me."

As the party goes on, it took all her self control to keep from calling Magnus. The boy was only ten, after all. But someday, she'll get those two together. Even if it's the last thing she does.

*************

10 years later.....

Alec looked down at the invitation nervously. He didn't go to parties. Hell, he was forced to have a birthday party last year. But here the invitation was, given to him by a hooded stranger. He hadn't even gotten a good look at his or her face. Normally, he would've tossed the invitation without any thought, but he felt compelled to go. It was as if his very soul was urging him.

"What have you got here?" Izzy asked. She snatched the paper out of Alec's hands and read it, despite his protests. "Magnus the Magnificent Warlock, huh? You going?"

"I don't know, maybe? I'm still deciding." Alec bit his lip.

"Well, if you aren't going, I definitely will. I hear his parties are legendary."

Alec swished his tail. " I don't know, Iz. It seems kinda dangerous."

Izzy laughed and shoved him. "Dangerous? You seriously need to lighten up, big brother. I'm going, and so are you."

Alec gave his sister a look.

"It'll be fun, I promise. And who knows? Maybe you'll meet someone."

Alec sighed. He seriously needed to learn how to say no.

"Fine," he said, and winced at the screams of joy by his sister. "But I'm only going to protect you." Maybe if he kept telling himself that, the words would ring true.

**************

Alec knocked on the door to the apartment and waited. It had taken them a while to find it, and he had started to worry that they were at the wrong place. Suddenly, the door swinged open and a man with beautiful amber cat eyes appeared.

"I assume you're here for the party?" He said.

"Yeah," Izzy said, and Alec nodded.

"Well, I'm Magnus. Welcome to the party."

He beckoned them to follow him inside. They walked into the party and were welcomed by the scent of unknown Seelie drugs and booze. The bass was pulsing and a girl onstage in the corner of the apartment was a singing a song and encouraging everyone to sing along.

Tonight we are victorious

Champagne pouring over us

All my friends were glorious

Tonight we are victorious

Izzy immediately disappeared into the crowd. Everyone around him was jumping up and down, and pumping their fists, totally enjoying the song. Even Alec found himself nodding along to the beat and swishing his tail.

"She's a good performer, right?" Magnus said.

The sudden presence of Magnus startled Alec. "Yeah, she's pretty intense."

Magnus smiled and stretched out his hand.
"Wanna dance?"

Alec nodded and took Magnus' hand, and let him guide the both of them into the crowd.
