Dark was the egos' fearless leader. He was feared and respected, and he intended on keeping it that way.
Which was why when Wilford came home one day with a pet tarantula, Dark locked himself in his room, claiming he had "paperwork" to do.
"Hey Darky, look what I got today!" Wilford said excitedly as he walked through the door. Dark glanced up from his morning coffee, seeing the pink ego holding some sort of cage. He didn't really care, especially this early in the morning, but he decided to humor Wil.
"What is it?" Dark asked, regretting the words as soon as they came out of his mouth. Wilford lifted the cage onto the table, right in front of Dark's face, revealing a grown tarantula.
"Stole it myself-" Wilford began proudly, but was cut off when Dark yelped and stood up suddenly, dumping his coffee all over himself. He backed up towards the kitchen door, going white.
"I-I should go change," Dark stuttered, eyes not leaving the cage.
"You alright there, Darky?" Wil questioned. "You're lookin' a little pale." He chuckled. "Well, paler than usual."
"I'm fine," Dark said quickly before darting out of the room.
None of the egos saw Dark for the rest of the day, leaving them all confused. Usually, he would be checking up on all of them at least once to make sure they were doing their job. Despite their confusion, none of them really minded. Well, except for one.
Wilford couldn't stop thinking about what had happened that morning. Did he do something wrong? He decided he would ask Dark about it tomorrow after the meeting. There was no way Dark would miss it, and therefore no way he could avoid Wilford.

He missed it. None of the egos could believe it. Dark had walked into the meeting room where all of the egos were already gathered and Wilford was showing off his new pet. However, the moment he walked in, he froze, declared the meeting cancelled, and walked back out.
All of the egos sat there in shock. Dark had never cancelled a meeting like that before. I need to find out what's going on, Wilford thought, putting the spider back in it's cage and marching out of the meeting room in the direction of Dark's room.
"Dark!" He yelled, knocking on the door rather loudly. "Darky let me in!" He heard a muffled "no" from the other side of the door, but he'd be damned if that was going to stop him. He tried the doorknob, only to find that it was locked. No matter. He took out his gun and shot the lock, causing the door to creak open.
"WILFORD WHAT HAVE I TOLD YOU ABOUT SHOOTING MY LOCK, NOW I HAVE TO REPLACE THE DOOR AGAIN," Dark yelled, standing up from where he was sitting at his desk. Wilford just walked towards Dark, ignoring the yelling.
"Darky, is something wrong? You've been locked in your room for 24 hours and you cancelled a meeting. This isn't like yo-" Wilford was cut off by a high pitched squeak coming out of Dark's mouth, followed by him once again backing away from Wil.
"Get it out, get it out, get it out-" Dark said, repeating himself and staring at his desk. The tarantula had crawled out of it's cage and was slowly making it's way across Dark's desk. Wilford felt a grin spread across his face when he realized what was happening.
"Are you telling me," he scooped up the spider, "that the infamous Dark, our fearless leader," he started towards Dark, causing Dark to back up more, "is afraid of spiders."
"Wil, this isn't funny, get that thing away from me," Dark warned, panic creeping into his voice. He cursed himself silently, hating this fear. Suddenly, his back hit the wall, leaving him with nowhere else to go while Wilford still walked towards him, spider in hand. The panicked Darkiplier could only see one option. He pulled out his gun and pointed it at the spider. Wilford stopped suddenly.
"You're willing to shoot me just to get rid of a spider?" Wilford chuckled. "Don't worry Darky, I'm putting him back." Wil returned to the cage that he had set on Dark's desk, putting the spider in and making sure the lid was secure. Dark put the gun away but stayed where he was.
"Get it out of here," Dark growled. "And if anyone else finds out about this-"
"Yeah, yeah, I'll regret the day I was born, blah blah blah, I've heard it all before."
"Just get it out."
"But Darky, I haven't even named it yet," Wilford said, putting on a sad face. Dark wasn't having it.
"Wil listen to me. Once you name it you start getting attached to it! NOW PUT THAT THING BACK WHERE IT CAME FROM OR SO HELP ME-"
"Okay, I get it, geez," Wilford grumbled. He took the cage and walked out of Dark's room. Dark sighed with relief, glad that that nightmare was over.
Dark was angry that Wil had found out his secret, but in a way it was also a good thing. He had someone to kill the spiders for him now. Occasionally the egos would hear less than manly screeching coming out of Dark's room, causing them to worry. Wil, however, would smile to himself and go find Dark, who was most of the time standing on his desk, papers scattered everywhere, as a spider scuttled across the floor.
One such time, another ego happened to walk by Dark's room.
"Uh... Dark? Wilford?" The ego questioned. Wil plastered on a fake smile.
"Ah, you've caught us at an awkward moment," he had said, "we were just practicing a sketch for a new video." Wilford put his arm around the ego and led them away from Dark's room, distracting them with talk of some made up scenario that would require Dark to stand on his desk shrieking. Dark thought it was less than believable, but said nothing. As long as his secret was kept.
