Silence.

It's weird how much someone can mean to you in a matter of days. Sometimes hours. Sometimes it's just one action. But that person comes to mean more to you than you could ever had imagined.

Jun agreed to meet me at the police station after his shift at the hospital. As soon as he left, a silence fell across the apartment like a sudden snowdrift. It was empty..cold without his presence, something was missing. I couldn't help but feel nervous. Around Jun, everything felt safe and sure. Without him...

The world was threatening and closed off.

I sighed as I thought back to last night, well this morning.

I had never imagined Jun breaking like that, not just breaking but shattering into millions of pieces. It showed how little I knew about him. I could count off all the facts i knew about him on my fingers. Fighting the longing to run down the street after him, I wandered into the front room with a coffee. I practically fell onto the sofa, the caffeine not yet in my system. Something hard stabbed me viciously in my back. I sat up, hissing in pain.

The now crumpled uniform lay beneath me. My uniform. I examined it carefully. It was a faded navy blue, slightly frayed, threads waiting to unravel stuck up along the sleeves. The name xu minghao was stitched across the top pocket in Korean. I ran my finger across it, feeling the shape of the characters. As I did so, something rustled softly. I reached inside, my fingertips coming in contact with paper.

Easing it out, while trying to contain my excitement, i grinned. Please let it be another clue... "Shit" I muttered as I felt it tear slightly.

It was a folded piece of newspaper.

With shaking hands, I opened it, desperate for it to reveal its secrets.

"Police officers killed in car accident"

The black ink stated boldly against the slightly yellowed paper.

I stopped.

I began reading frantically, as if my life depended on it.

"Beijing mourns the loss of two of their finest police officers: Xu Meihai and Liangchen. The two beloved police officers had been married for fifteen years. The couple was on their way back from a late night investigation when there was a tragic accident in the early morning of Wednesday 8th. Their car hit a patch of black ice as they were driving across the Yanqing bridge. The car skidded out of control and off the bridge. Both husband and wife were killed instantly as the car fell down a forty feet drop.."

The paragraph ended there as the rest of it had been ripped off, as though someone had hurriedly torn it out of a newspaper. I clutched it tightly, re-reading the black words over and over again. They didn't change.

So that was it...a car crash? I wondered..what had been their last thoughts?

There wasn't a date on the newspaper, no way of telling how long ago this was. The aging on the newspaper hinted that it was years ago. But I couldn't be sure. I wished there had been a picture on the snippet of news. I wanted to see their faces.

Wait...a car crash?

But, Soyeon had said I was investigating their deaths. How did that make sense? How can you investigate a car crash? You can't start a police investigation on an accident that happened years ago..

It didn't make sense.

I sighed, frustration filling every inch of me. Fuck, I thought, fuck my life. Every answer I got lead me to several more questions.

Ding.

The sudden noise from my phone made me jump. I was way too on edge. My mind swirling with thoughts, I checked the notification without actually seeing it. I was shaken out of my trance as my eye was caught by the contact name.

Wen Junhui 10:58

Tsch, such a flirt smh

I found something in my uniform you need to see

See you in about twenty then

I couldn't control the smile that crept across my face. Something about Jun made me lose control of my face, I couldn't help but smile when ever I saw him.

If only that feeling had lasted forever.

As I exited the apartment, with the newspaper safely folded in my jacket pocket, I felt myself instinctively turn left down the bustling street. It was like my legs took over. Even though I had no memory of where I should be going, my feet remembered the route. Like how people who play the piano let their hands take over, they don't even need to think about which note is next. Their fingers guide them.

It was overhung with dark clouds, a few drops of rain stung my face. Without recognising it, I could tell which building the police station was. It was a huge squat skyscraper, with hundreds of dark blue windows, which glinted dully. There was a square in front of it, a few people braving the chilling breeze and slight rain, were lingering around it. In the centre was a stone fountain. I started.

Was it my imagination...

Sitting on the fountain side was a woman. Her face was partly concealed by sunglasses and she was dressed in a burgundy suit. She could have been an office worker. But I something in me was warning me, I had seen her before. As well as this she was staring in my direction with intense concentration. Her sunglasses hid her eyes so I wasn't entirely sure if I was the object of her interest. It was creepy though.

Just as I decided to confront her, I felt someone grab my arm and spin me round.
"Hao!!"
I was greeted (blessed) by the site of Jun smiling widely, slight dimples appearing on his cheeks.
"Jun" I smiled, before frowning as I remembered the woman.
I glanced round.
She saw me and smirked. The sight sent rivers of dread rippling down my body. There was so much menace in that one action.

"Hao...? What you looking at??" Jun whined as the rain suddenly began lashing down.
"Let's go, I'm getting wet!"
He grabbed my wrist and dragged me towards the double doors of the police station.

Quickly I looked back. But the spot on the fountain side was empty. There was no sign of her anyway.

She was gone.

Like she had never existed in the first place.

Yeaaaa again it's not proofread but I'm tired and I cba rn. But yeah the next shitty update lol. But I can't write anything better so we stuck with that, anyways if anyone sees this I hope you're having a lovely day:)
