As I stepped through the solid brick wall, I felt the same rush I got every year. I was going back to my favorite place on the Earth.
The hustle and bustle of students, parents, trunks, and pets was the same as ever, suffocating. Still, it fueled my excitement and anticipation of what this year had in store for me.
I dragged my trunk behind me, overturning it on accident. I struggled with the infernal thing for a few seconds before my father reached over and righted it with ease. With a playful gleam in my eye, I spat my tongue out at him. He merely gave me a smile and took my luggage from me.
"Are you ready to start your sixth year, sweetheart?" My small, willowy, blonde mother asked me, tears already forming in her brown eyes. "You've grown so much already darling."
I gave her a sorrowful look and wrapped my thin arms around her.
"Oh Mum, you know I am never ready to grow up. I will always be you baby girl, no matter how much taller I get." I said with a small chuckle as I kissed the top of her head. I had passed her height by the end of my second year."Maggie, let your daughter go before she graduates. I will go drop off your trunk. Don't forget little Addie with your mum again!" Dad referenced last year, the first year having a barn owl of my own.
As Dad strode away, my mum relinquished her grip on me, tears streaming down her face. We exchanged our final goodbyes, as she had to arrive at her work shortly. I stood back as she Apparated away, her tears finally slowing. Dad found me again shortly, giving me a warm and lingering hug.
"Make sure you write more this year, you hear? Going two months without a whisper on the wind from you killed us last year." I nodded my head at my loving father, not wanting to send him over the edge with flowery goodbyes. He have me one final squeeze and Apparated back to his work at Flourish and Blotts.
With a heavy heart, I boarded the train and stowed my bag and Addie into the compartment my friends and I always rode, which was still empty. Sirius, Peter, and Aman must still be in the platform. I thought to myself. I gave Addie a treat and stroked her as she cooed at me before I left. I then strode to the prefect's compartment. I became excited as I remembered some crucial information. James and Lily are Head Boy and Girl!
They were a very cute couple. James even stopped bullying for Lily. (Sirius continued, but James discouraged it.) She is much better off with us rather than Severus.
I refused to call him Snivellus, what a terrible nickname. He hasn't done anything to me, even if it was because of my pureblood status. As I stepped into the small room, I felt the usual tension and formality that was always present when around the other prefects.
"Illy-bear! Come sit with me, Moony, and Flower!" I rolled my eyes, but of course James was not affected by the formal atmosphere. Lily and Remus both hid their faces in shame of the bespeckled boy who was sat next to them. I sat gingerly next to my best friend who was currently spending all too much of his concentration on picking baubles off his jumper.
"Hello Remus, how has your morning been?" I asked, my Scottish accent very apparent.
He shrugged half-heartedly, obviously trying to hide his shame from James' earlier outburst. Lily brought the room to order and started to instruct us. Halfway through the meeting, I noticed that James was being too quiet. I glanced at him, and noticed that he was very flustered and red. I nearly snorted out loud. Lily silently glued his tongue to the roof of him mouth so that the meeting would go smoothly. I nudged Remmie, and he just sent me a quick look before turning back to Lily.
I rolled me eyes and elbowed him more violently this time. He completely ignored me. I settled for poking his side.
Then he did something very disturbing.
