"Have you got it?" Calum asks once Luke had buckled in his seatbelt in the passengers seat.
"Yep."
Luke nods, pulling his backpack up onto is lap and zipping it open to make sure everything he needs is inside. Two clients worth of marijuana. Luke is still half asleep from only waking up about ten minutes ago, rubbing at his eyes and letting out a yawn. He had to sneak out of his bedroom window to get into Calum's car without anyone noticing.
The boys in the band all help out with the drug dealing clique they've been running since the start of the year (they took over from the seniors that did the same last year), but tonight Luke and Calum were the only ones that could make it. They're supplying weed for a party at another school, which they don't do too often. Most of the deals they make are involved with their own high school.
These kind of deals sometimes worry Luke. It's not because he doesn't trust Calum, Michael or Ashton. It's because he doesn't always trust the clients. Even when you're supposedly getting payed a certain amount of money for an amount of drugs, something can easily go wrong. Luke's biggest fear for these situations is getting mobbed by a huge group of people, or if they bring weapons. But most of the kids really just want the drugs and no trouble, which is good. And the money for this deal is good money.
"All strapped in?" Ella laughs loudly at Luke's ability to try and stay still in his seat, making him jump at the sound of her voice coming from behind him.
"Jesus."
He sighs, turning to see that Ella was indeed sitting in the back seat, smiling like a five year old at him and rocking her legs back and forth. Why is she even here? Calum doesn't usually bring her along with him to these.
"She's drunk, and I wasn't going to let her go home on her own." Calum whispers, shaking his head while keeping his attention on the road in front of him. He really is a good brother to her, despite what Calum's parents might think. He isn't that irressponsible. "I can hear you Cal."
She giggles and hiccups, reaching her hand up to her mouth to cover it.
"Still doesn't change the fact that you're drunk Ella." Calum groans. He would rather spend the night doing anything else then babysit her, especially while he is on a job, on a school night, when he should be at home asleep."Okay let's keep the sibling arguments for later, alright?" Luke requests, looking at both Calum and Ella.
"Yeah!" Ella yells a little too loudly, agreeing with Luke and laughing out to herself again.
"I think this is it." Calum announces as he looks out of the window at the different house numbers throughout the street. "Yep, number seven." He checks with the address he's been given via text message.
"Alright you're gonna have to go Luke." Calum nods his head towards the place on the corner, pointing over to it.
"On my own?" Luke mumbles under his breath, not wanting Ella to hear him freak out like a little boy. He still had every right to be nervous though. Calum responds by grabbing Luke's door handle and pushing it open.
"You'll be fine. I'll be right here in the car ready, if anyhting goes down."
Luke gulps to himself and brushes off his jeans, rubbing off the new sweat that's forming on his hands. "Oh yeah, right." He clears his throat and jumps out of the car, closing the door behind him. With his hands shoved awkwardly in his pockets Luke heads towards the small house with the white picket fence. At least it looked like a nice house, hopefully the people are nice too. Luke stares down at his watch that reads 3:02am. Perfect timing.
"Hey guys." He nods his head at the small group of three boys his age, that are all shorter than he is. Luke pulls his backpack off of his shoulder and holds it in between his knees, waiting for them to make the first move.
"Five hundred in cash." One of them speaks, pulling a bundle of cash inside an elastic band out. Luke watches the guy count the notes out for him and he pulls at them, to show it's real money.
The money gets placed onto the small table in between the two of them and Luke looks back briefly to the car, only to see Calum drumming along to the music that's playing inside of the car. Luke scoffs to himself quietly, Calum wasn't even watching to check if he was okay. "Here's the drugs." He pulls out the two packets of weed from his backpack, and dumps them onto the table.
"It's not fake, and if you have any doubts or questions you know where to contact." Luke runs his hands down his jeans, rubbing the sweat off of his palms.
"Pleasure doing business with you gentlemen." Luke smirks, making an effort to go around and shake each group member's hand. No more is really needed to be said at this point except goodbye's or thank you's, which this group were deciding to stay quiet about.
"Hey kid!" A voice from down the street calls, and a flashlight turns on.
Luke's heart drops to what seems like the pit of his stomach when he sees a man shining a torch in his direction.
"Holy shit." He mutters under his breath, freezing still in his tracks and looking back to Calum's car. He just might make it in time seeing as the police officer is at the corner.
So Luke does just that, making his best effort to sprint back over to the car. "Hey!" He yells and screams a few times, to try and get Calum's attention. The noise of the man behind him was beginning to get louder as Luke bashed against the window of his side so the door would be unlocked.
Calum widens his eyes at the sight of the guy running towards them and quickly starts the car, practically pulling Luke in once the door is open and slamming down on the gas to get the car out of there.
"Fuck!" Luke screams, kicking at the floor once he had buckled himself in and they'd made it out of sight around the corner.
"Do you think he saw the number plates?" He asks Calum breathlessly.
"He was too far away, surely."
"Oh my god. If we get in trouble for this we're so fucked. We'll be in jail Cal, all four of us!" Luke rakes his hands through his hair after throwing his hat to the ground. He only hopes that those guys back there don't rat them out to the cops.
This was the first time they'd ever been spotted by a cop while on a job, and it was like the officer knew what was going on too. There's no way he just happened to be on some side street at this time of the night making sure the public is safe, it didn't make sense.
"You're sure he was a police officer?" Calum laughs softly.
"He had a fucking flashlight! Who else would be running after me like that?"
"I don't know dude, maybe he thought you were someone he knew." Calum was having a hard time to keep a serious face.
It was too dark for Luke to confirm that this guy was wearing a uniform, but it sure looked like it. Whether it was a police uniform or something else, is the question. He was too scared to talk anymore, keeping his eyes on the road ahead and occasionally looking behind in the mirror for any sign of red and blue lights. There were none.
Luke sighs out and shakes his head.
Maybe he's just going crazy after all.
