As they walked to Philology, Rolfe looked at Thomas, "Hey, man, I know how ya feel. Took me a while to warm up and make a few friends. It happens to everyone, ya just gotta give it time." Thomas felt comforted by what Rolfe told him and he entered the room with a new sense of purpose.
As they did their individual work, Rolfe could see that Thomas' thoughts were beginning to go elsewhere. Thomas sighed and his forlorn look seemed to return to his face. Rolfe, making sure that Mr. Facilier wouldn't see, quickly and quietly took a picture of Thomas' face and sent it to the rest of the gang saying, "He's getting Freshman Anxiety. Stage 1: Homesickness. I'm seeing the symptoms, I'll know for sure if he doesn't hear himself getting called on in class." The final symptom was finally confirmed when Mr. Facilier had to call on Thomas three times to get his attention.
Everyone got Rolfe's message and agreed they had to start taking some action.
