The steam from my coffee pot rose almost all the way to the beige ceiling just as the clock hit five-thirty in the morning. I love basic creamer with my coffee. I can't add too many flavors because it starts to take out the taste of pure coffee. But, to the point where I can't just drink it dark. You're brave if you drink it plain. I've noticed that with the other doctors I work with here at the hospital. You can't even tell it's the crack of dawn, the nurses walking up and down the hallway at a fast pace; their high ponytails swinging in the air. It's just another day here. The energy is just as up than it was if it were twelve in the afternoon.
I love it here. I get my first paycheck by the end of the week and that gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. Twenty-nine days before we get evicted and I can't say when my aunt and I will get that under control. I snatched the paper off my door before Dean could get a glance of the "You're getting kicked out" sign on my door. How embarrassing. On top of me crying my eyes out infront of him.
This match happening tonight is my fault. I don't know what history Dean and Phil have together nor do I care. Personal business should not exist in that type of world, their world.
I push that thought aside when my buzzer goes off, alerting me to room 614 for a transfer for a CAT scan.
A few hours later I walk up to my clock out book writing when I clocked in and clocked out. I felt a few eyes burning in my back as other eager nurses were waiting for me to be done so they could do the same thing to go home.
Dean's apartment was pretty close to the hospital so since it was within reach I decided to go there before I went home.
"Nina, there's someone on line one. They say it's an emergency." the assistant at the desk calls over to me.
"Oh okay.." I mumble
I don't know where the station is. I watch the assistant watch me, blinking. Waiting for me to follow her.
"You don't know your way around yet?" she asks in an agitated tone
I shake my head, following every step she took leading me to the other side of the building. I was brought to a set of phones behind a nurses station in the emergency room. She calmly swishes her way through running people in blue scrubs getting to people in need.
"Okay, you see that red light next to that number? You're gonna click it and it will take you right to it, got it?" she pointed to the exact phone as I sat down in the black cushioned chair.
I noticed her name tag said Sarah and I made a mental note if I ever saw her again. Even though I have no idea who would be calling me at this time.
"Hello, this is Nina.." I cleared my throat, surprised by the voice that came out of it
No one replied
I pulled the phone away from my ear checking it then checking the wire to make sure it wasn't twisted.
"Hello?"
I started to hear slow breathing on the other side. Maybe it was a prank.
I start to hang up the phone before I hear ..
"Be at Phil's in twenty minutes or in a couple seconds I'm blowing his brains out."
Dean
I felt everything infront of me turn and my body shut down. I take in what's going on, and look around the office to make sure who's here and so I don't make a scene. I move the phone away for a second to take a couple breathes trying not to throw up. The phone touched my face again, with the same present person on the other line.
