He's in a wheel chair. Has bandages covering almost every other part of his face. And he's even more paler than me, if that's possible. But I can tell that under all that damage, there lies a handsome face.
His eyes are downcast, but as if feeling my gaze on him, he lifts his head and my eyes meet a pair of brilliant gold flecked green eyes. My heart starts to beat really fast in my chest, and a foreign feeling washes over me. I feel a sort of...connection with this stranger. Which is absolutely ridiculous. But, it feels like I know him some how. But how?
I shake my head to get rid of the crazy thoughts. Maybe there's something in that medicine that the nurse always gives me. Some type of awful side effect to it that they never told me about so that I woudn't freak out.
We only hold eye contact for about five seconds at most, before he looks away, back to the tiled floor of the lobby, which seems way too interesting to him. I look away as well, embarrassed that I got caught staring at him. He must think that I was looking at his scars and bandages while judging him. Well, that is the half-truth.
My gaze then lands on a woman at the receptionist desk. It seems like she is in some type of heated argument with the poor women behind the counter. The lady sighs, frustrated. She messages her temple and turns around and I finally see her face.
I gasp and turn to my parents. "Isn't that...."
"Susan Grey?" Dad guesses correctly. "Yeah it is." His words are sort of distant and he looks up at Susan. My parents and her share some type of knowing look.
I look between them confused. "Umm, mind telling me whats going on?"
"Nothing, nothing. Let's just get out of here, before she can say anything to us," Mom says quickly. I can't help but notice the panicked expression planted on her face. But I don't question her, and nor does any one else as she ushers us out the building.
We're almost at the exit doors, Lane giving me a hand as I limp towards it behind everyone else, when a voice calls out to us. "Oh and Mr. and Ms. Pierce?" We turn around to see Susan approaching us and I hear my mom let out a disappointed sigh.
"Yes?" Dad asks, the impatience clear in his voice.
"Don't forget about the deal we made," She says. Her voice serious and devoid of any playfulness. "Or you know what will happen."
"Of course we wont," Mom says in a voice that is so different than her usual cheerful shrill, that I've only heard her use around Susan. "Not after that talk we had."
Susan nods, pleased. Her eyes flicker to me for a second or so, and something unreadable flashes in them before she turns around and walks away.
"I can't stand her," Mom mutters under her breathe when Susan is gone.
I look around at my siblings to see if they are as confused as me. They're not. And this frustrates me even more. They're hiding something from me and I will find out. "Please let me in on whats going on," I demand.
Dad shakes his head. "Don't worry, kiddo. Susan's just being her normal pesky self. Why don't we just head home so that you can rest?" He suggests.
I sigh, and limp behind them because its obvious they don't want to tell me. Maybe because I just got out of the hospital and they don't want to stress me with information. But I am defiantly bugging them about this later. If I remember.
Outside, it's already late afternoon and I can see half the moon, which is in the shape of a banana, is already up and shining. The fresh air blows on my face and body and I can honestly say that it feels amazing-cold-but amazing. I haven't been outside for two whole weeks! We reach our two vans with me awkwardly lagging behind. Yes, two. Because if you haven't noticed, I have a huge family and I'm saying that with one of my brothers missing.
