Cris wondered once again how it was possible for the time to have flown by so fast. She could hardly grasp the fact that it was already her second year of university.
She was doing okay with her classes, to the surprise of her parents, and she had made many new friends over her freshman year as an undergrad.
The only thing lacking in her life was romance, but she didn't really have a problem with that. She didn't actually have the time between her classes and work to worry about love, and really, she avoided everyone's advances. She never had an issue with finding someone to spend time with if she needed some sort of release anyways, so why would she need the daily stress of being in a relationship.
Pushing that thought away from her mind, she grabbed her bag from her father's car while him and her brother carried the rest of her things to her dorm room.
"Thank you so much for your help, I will call you if I need anything else," she said, hugging them both and quickly ushering them out of her door.
"You know your mother would love to send you food if you want, yes? Take care of yourself," her father said, kissing her head.
"Bye sis, see you soon for movie night yeah?" Her brother said, ruffling her hair in an effort to annoy her as per usual. They both headed to the car, finally leaving her alone for the first time since the beginning of summer.
She was relieved to have her own room, finally. Of course, she would have to share it with a roommate, but she had requested to have the same girl from last year, Inés, who never spent the night in their room because she practically lived with her boyfriend.
She threw herself on her bed, scrolling happily through her phone, knowing this room was going to be her sanctuary until the next summer.
Half an hour later, a sudden knock on the door startled her, and she turned her head towards the noise.
"Come in, it's unlocked!" she shouted, wondering who it was. It wasn't unheard of for random people to wander around the dorm from room to room, but it was too soon for gatherings after all.
An unfamiliar brunette entered the room, and Cris sat up on her bed quickly.
"Hello, you are Cris right? I'm this year's resident assistant for this floor, my name is Eva. Nice to meet you," the girl came closer to shake her hand.
"Nice to meet you too Eva, how can I help you? My roommate Inés is not here if you are looking for her," Cris gave her a handshake, wondering why the RA had decided to show up.
"Actually, this is what I wanted to tell you. Inés has informed us that she won't be staying at the dorms anymore, so we had to assign you to a new roommate. She's a transfer from Argentina and she will be moving in during the week, so don't be alarmed if you see someone new in your room all of a sudden," Eva said taking a step back towards the door.
"Wait, how did this happen? Can't you assign her in another room or something?" Cris asked, hoping to avoid having a new roommate. She hated surprises, and this new person was ruining her chance to have some peace and quiet.
"I'm sorry, but we are fully booked. This girl was very lucky to find this room, we rarely have cancelations," Eva shook her head in sympathy.
"Anyways I really have to run, but please make sure to keep her side clean until she gets here," the bearer of bad news made her exit, leaving Cris anxious about this weird Argentinian newcomer.
She didn't even ask for a name to stalk her on social media, she contemplated, shaking her head at her stupidness. Maybe she also had a boyfriend around and would leave her alone, she hoped, wondering about the reason that would make someone move to another country during their second year of college.
