Evynne pushed a lock of her honey brown hair out of her sea green eyes and looked herself over in her vanity. Today was an important day. A special day and Evynne wanted to make sure that she looked her absolute best. She looked at her dress, it was a deep red color and it was decorated with black lace patterns. Her eyes then went to the sparkling tiara resting on top of her curls. It was silver and encrusted with diamonds and rubies.
There was a light knock on the door and then her father, King Alexander Tate walked in and gave her a smile.
"Look at you." He said with his arms open. "You're absolutely stunning darling."
Evynne gave him a small smile.
"Thank you Papa."
"Are you ready? Prince James has just arrived. However, there may not be a wedding in your future, you're likely to give the man a heart attack when he sees the beauty that is to be his wife." Her father said.
Evynne rolled her eyes.
"Oh stop." She sighed and walked past him.Yes, as mentioned before, Today was an important day. Today was the day to celebrate Evynne's engagement to Prince James. Although they were not engaged yet, because he hadn't asked yet. He was expected to and she was expected to say yes. So the party was already planned.
If Evynne were being honest, she wasn't the least bit interested in James or this party. She was far more interested in the trip she would be taking to town after the party was over with, because to her, this day wasn't special because of any engagement to any prince, or a fancy celebration. She didn't love Jame's. She loved someone else and he had been gone for the last 5 years, but today he was finally coming back and she was finally going to see him again.
"Evynne, Get your head out of the clouds." The King hissed at his daughter as they made it into the courtyard.
Evynne's father was always kind to her, but he ran his Kingdom with perfection and he expected nothing less but perfection from her as well and he'd waited for this day for years. If she were to mess it up she'd never get to leave the palace tonight.
"Evynne, you know how important this is. I know you have your opinions on this marriage but its the best thing for our Kingdom and our people. Do nothing to mess this up."
"I can still go to town to get my books this evening right?" Evynne asked.
Alexander sighed.
"Ever with the distractions.." He muttered. "If you behave yourself here, I will allow Sir Garrison and his men to escort you into town after the celebration.
Evynne rolled her eyes. It would be a challenge with her fathers men following her around but she had evaded them before many a time she could do it again.
"Smile and stop slouching." Alexander said and Evynne sighed and fixed her posture and plastered a fake smile on her face as they walked into her Mother's garden where James was to be proposing.--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The proposal went exactly as everyone expected it to. Evynne hated that she was now promised to this man that she didn't love but her father would not allow her to decline. She'd said no to every other suitor that came to the palace doors for the last two years, but her father said it was high time she settled down and there was to be no more of her foolishness.
Evynne tried her best to focus, and stay in this moment, but her mind was dreaming of what it would it be like when she saw him again for the first time. Would his lips still taste the same? How would he feel when she touched him? Or when he touched her. She closed her eyes and bit her bottom lip trying to imagine it.
"Are you alright, Your Highness?" Evynnes eyes snapped open and she looked at her handmaiden Rebecca who looked at her with concern.
"Of course Rebecca, and please it's just Evynne.. You've known me since birth, you've cared for me like a mother."
"Evynne in private, Your Highness in public. Your father would have me on the streets if he heard me call you by your name." Rebecca sighed and shook her head. "Are you sure you're alright?"
"Of course, Why wouldn't I be?" Evynne asked.
"You had your eye's closed, and you were breathing as if you couldn't get enough air. Your cheeks are pink." She fussed and touched Evynne's face to check for a fever.
"Rebecca, honestly I'm fine." Evynne smiled and moved Rebecca's hands away from her face. "I'm just ready for this celebration to be over."
