The first thought that popped into Mal's head the next morning was, today we're going to change a lot of people's lives for the better. Today is going to be one of the best days in history.
And that was for so many reason. Not only was it a special day for her, to connect her new family, and then connect them with her other family. Today would not only be one of the happiest days in her life, but it was going to completely change everyone on the isles lives too. She would do what she had always sworn to do, and she wouldn't do it for revenge, she would do it for love.
Their plan was to open the barrier before the wedding. Ben had wanted the wedding to happen before, but Mal had convinced him with one simple argument, she wanted her family and especially her dad to be there. Even though she had never met him, she wanted this to be the day she did, and it had to happen before. Even though it might all be pretend she wanted for at least one day to pretend that her parents wanted to be there for her milestones... like she wanted to be there for every single one of Lily's.
Mal and Ben had invited everyone to come down to where the broken bridge to Auradon leads. Here they would make some speeches, and what only few others knew they would also open up the barrier.
Mal was excited as she walked down there with Lily in her arms. "Are you excited for today?" She asked her daughter, for some reason holding her as close to her as possible, like she was trying to protect her. Not because she was scared something would happen to her, but probably because she didn't know exactly what was going to happen...
Lily nodded, "You and daddy are getting married!" She said excitedly, even though Mal knew she didn't actually really know what it meant. She just knew it made her parents happy, and therefore it made her happy too.
"And you know what else is happening?" Mal asked, making sure she would know exactly what was going to happen, so she wouldn't end up being scared or upset.
"New people coming," she said, "From isle."
"That's right," Mal said, "And you're hopefully going to meet your grandfather."
"I've already met him..." Lily said confused, looking weirdly at her mom.
"I know..." Mal laughed slightly by the look on her face, "but you have two of those."
Mal immediately saw her face lit up. She loved her grandfather, so the thought of having one more, she could only imagine being amazing, "Meet him now," she then said.
"Soon," Mal promised.
They had reached the bridge by now. Mal looked up at the platform leading out to the water, and saw Ben standing there with Fairy Godmother and his parents.
"Daddy!" Lily exclaimed when she saw him. She hadn't seen him all morning since he had been up early to get everything ready.
Ben turned around as soon as he heard his daughters voice, and saw them on their way up the stairs. When they reached him Ben picked Lily out of Mal's arms, and kissed Mal on the cheek, and whispered, "I can't wait for you to be my queen."
Mal laughed, and turned to face fairy godmother, "Everything's in order?" She asked her.
Fairy godmother nodded, "Everything should be fine, I just hope everything is going to work out as planned."
For some reason Mal actually didn't worry that much anymore. The talk with Evie yesterday, a good nights sleep and the thought of it actually happening, actually calmed her down, it seemed weird, but maybe it was because she knew everything was under control, and everything would be perfect no matter what.
Slowly everyone started to arrive. Mal made eye contact with Evie down in the crowd, and as she did she felt her excitement growing wider, and she just couldn't wait for Evie, Carlos and Jay to find out what she had planned.
She saw Carlos nodding encouraging to her, and Jay giving her a thumbs up. She had her friends on her side, and that made her feel safe. Her friends and family would always be there for her.
"Welcome everyone," Ben suddenly started, and Mal immediately stood tall, taking Lily from his arms, "As you all know today is the day Mal will officially become my queen, and I couldn't be more proud or excited about that. But... another very special thing that is going to happen today, is something I will let our future queen tell you, because she is the one who made it happen."
Now Mal felt all the nervousness finding its way to the surface, and she almost didn't know what to say.
She made eye contact with Evie again, which gave her the courage to speak up, "As you all know my friends and I come from the isle, and we know what it's like there and how everyone who lives there feel. Having lived in both places there's a lot of things I learned, but the most important one of them all, is that we are all humans, and everyone on the isle isn't bad, just as everyone here in Auradon aren't completely good either. And I think it's wrong that people get punished for something they either did long ago, or never did. And we've decided that it's time to stop hiding, and take up our own fights instead. I can't promise it will be easy, but in the end I know it will be great. Today we are opening the barrier once and for all."
Mal didn't know what to expect as an reaction, but she hadn't at all expected to hear almost everyone clapping and cheering. And loudest of all her friends. Maybe they had also learned something in these years, maybe everyone was starting to see the bigger picture, wishing for their own adventure.
She called her friends up on the platform, and handed Lily to Ben. She had surprisingly been very quiet, which wasn't very usual of her. As she did Lily got a bit upset, and when she looked at her face she could see that she was very uncomfortable. Not because of what was happening, but because she didn't know what was going on, and why all of these things were happening, plus she could probably also feel how nervous Mal was. Guess she could only prepare her for so much, especially when she hadn't even known the outcome herself.
Ben stepped a bit back from the crowd with her and hold her protectively in his arms, and when she was sure Lily was calming down, Mal turned her attention back to what was happening.
Fairy godmother handed her the wand, and together her and her friends cast the spell they had wanted to cast for their entire life, and the barrier was broken.
After that everything turned very hectic, but not in a bad way. People, and lots of them, were crossing the bridge from the isle, and everyone stood there ready to welcome them.
Evie, Carlos and Jay went down to welcome them over, but Mal kept standing at the platform scanning the crowd.
She soon felt Ben's arm around her shoulders, and Lily's around her neck, "Who are you looking for?" Ben asked.
She was about to answer when she saw him. Hades. Her father. First she saw his blue hair and then his face. He looked up at where they were standing, and now both Ben and Lily were looking down at him too. She knew he saw her and she knew he knew exactly who she was. For a moment she just stood there, building up the courage to go down there, but before she had time to do that she heard his voice behind her.
"Am I invited to the wedding?" He asked.
Mal turned around at the sound of his voice, she felt herself unable to move, as she said, "Dad."
