I join Carlos, Jay, and Evie in the balcony. Rachel is on the lower level with Audrey. Unfortunately, Aurora and Rapunzel are besties, so Rachel was stuck with them.
"Hey Maddy," Carlos greets me. Of course, he has Dude. "You look...amazing..." I blush and look down at my dress.

"Thanks. All credit goes to Evie. You truly outdid yourself, E." She gives me a tight smile and I can tell we're all anxious about the plan. I play with my ring and Evie puts her hand on my shoulder. Carlos slides closer to me and I don't complain. I need someone near me.
I watch Ben walk down the aisle. Evie and I curtsy and Jay and Carlos bow when he passes us. I straighten up and absentmindedly clench and un-clench my hand. When I release my hand, someone squeezes my hand. I look down and see Carlos's hand tightly holding mine. I squeeze his hand back and try to focus on the coronation.
FGM speaks, "Do you solemnly swear to govern the peoples of Auradon with justice and mercy as long as you shall reign?" Ben replies, "I do solemnly swear." FGM taps him on his shoulders with the wand, "Then it is my honor and my joy to bless our new king."
Someone snatches the wand...but it's not Mal.
It's Jane!
"Child, what are you doing?!" Fairy Godmother shrieks. Jane struggles to control the wand, "If you won't make me beautiful, I'll do it myself! Bibbidi-bobbidi-boo!" She spins around due to the power of the wand. Mal fights her for it and rips it out of her hands. She holds it in front of her and we race to meet her.
Ben motions to Mal, "Mal, give me the wand." Mal's voice cracks, "Stand back." Ben presses on, "It's okay." Mal is firm, "Ben, I said stand back!" Audrey can't resist, "I told you so!" Mal points the wand at her and she stumbles back in fear.
We reach her side. "Let's go!" Carlos hisses. Jay nods, "Revenge time." Ben asks, "You really want to do this?" Mal shouts, "We have no choice, Ben! Our parents..." Ben cuts her off, "Your parents made their choice. Now you make yours." Mal sighs, "I think I want to be good." Ben says, "You are good."
"How do you know that?!"
"Because...because I'm listening to my heart."
Mal lowers the wand, "I want to listen to my heart, too. And my heart is telling me that we are not our parents." She turns to Jay, "I mean, stealing things doesn't make you happy. Tourney and victory pizza with the team makes you happy."
She turns to Carlos, "And you. Scratching Dude's belly makes you happy. Who would've thought?" We laugh and Mal turns to me, "You were never really a villain. You are so amazing and sweet and I know you will help lead the gymnastic team to victory." I look at the ground, grinning. Mal turns to Evie, "And Evie...you do not have to play dumb to get a guy. You are so smart." Evie's eyes tear up.
"And I don't want to take over the world with evil. It doesn't make me happy. I want to go to school. And be with Ben. Because Ben makes me really happy. Us being friends makes me really happy. Not destroying things. I choose good, you guys."
She holds out her fist and I add mine, "I choose good, too." Jay and Evie add their fist and we turn to Carlos.
"So, just to be clear, we don't have to be worried about how really mad our parents will be? Because they're gonna be really, really mad." We laugh and Ben assures him, "Your parents can't reach you here." Carlos smiles, "Okay, then. Good."
Suddenly, there's a cloud of green smoke and it transform into Maleficent, "I'm back!" Mal sighs exasperatedly, "Go away, mother." Maleficent snorts, "She's funny. Oh! I'm so... you're very funny. Here. Wand me. Chop chop." Ben yells, "No!" Mal tosses the wand to Fairy Godmother who waves it around.
"Bibbidi-bobbidi..." Maleficent smirks, "Boo." She waves her scepter and everyone but us freezes. "Psych." She takes off Beast's glasses and nibbles on the end, "Ooh. Ooh, in another time, in another time."
She puts them crookedly on his head and hums, "Evil like me, don't you wanna be mean..." She stops in front of FGM and takes the wand, "Oh. Oh, no. Someone needs to pluck their nose hairs." She sticks the tip in FGM's nose and then turns to us, "Where shall we begin? I know. Why don't we start by getting rid of this?"
She takes Ben's ring off Mal's finger, "Perfect fit! Oh, excuse me. Pardon me. Excuse me. The horns, the horns! Aw..." She stops in front of Ben, "Falling in love is weak...and ridiculous. It's not what you want." Mal sighs, "You don't know what I want! Mom, have you ever once asked me what I want? I'm not you!"
Maleficent shrugs, "Well, obviously. I've had years and years and years and...years of practice being evil. You'll get there." Mal shakes her head, "No, I will not. And I really wish that you had never gotten there yourself. Love is not weak or ridiculous. It's actually really amazing."
Maleficent snarls, "I know one thing, young lady. You have no room for love in your life!" Mal's eyes narrow, "And now I command, wand to my hand!" The wand levitates to Mal's hand, "Ha! It worked!" Maleficent grumbles like a toddler, "I hardly think so. Frankly, this is tedious and very immature. Give me the wand. Give me the wand!"
Carlos stops Mal, "Hold on, Mal. Maybe good really is more powerful than evil." Maleficent laughs, "Oh, please! You're killing me. Arf!" Dude jumps onto her and starts licking her face, "Oh! Oh, the breath! The breath! Get off me!" She pats him off and Jay reaches for the scepter. She runs her hand on his biceps and I mentally gag, "Gaston should be jealous." She plucks him and he flies back, "Enough! You all will regret this!"
She turns into a dragon and Carlos pulls me behind him as she chases Jay around the cathedral. We scream for Jay to hurry behind us and Mal faces her mother, "Leave my friends alone! This is between you and me, mother." Their eyes turn green as they have a staring contest, which Mal never wins. "The strength of evil is good as none, when stands before four hearts as one. Dragon Maleficent screams and disappears in a cloud of green smoke. We gasp and approach the small object on the carpet.
"What just happened?"
"I have no idea!"
"Did you do it?"
"I don't know!"
Fairy Godmother is unfrozen and rushes over to us, "No, no, no, no. Your mother did. She shrank to the size of the love in her heart. That's why it's so...itty-bitty."
It's a cute purple and black lizard. I giggle and Carlos grins. Mal bends down, "Is she gonna be like that forever?" Fairy Godmother smiles, "Well, forever is a long time. You learned to love. So can she." Mal hands her the wand, "I believe this belongs to you." FGM hands her Ben's ring, "And I believe this belongs to you. You all have earned yourselves an "A" in goodness class." We laugh and she waves the wand, "Bibbidi-bobbidi-boo!"
Beast and Ben let out a roar and charge. Belle stops Beast and Mal stops Ben, "Okay, okay! Oh! We kinda got this all wrapped up here." Ben picks her up and spins her around, "Next time, I rescue you, okay?" Mal laughs, "Yeah. Let's not let there be a next time, okay?" She sees Jane and FGM and says, "I will be right back."
Rachel races over to me and hugs me, "Oh my gosh, are you okay?" I laugh, nodding, "Totally." She lets out a sigh of relief and Rapunzel walks over to me, "Madison, please forgive me. I was too quick to judge you." I smile, "It's okay. I am pretty creepy." We laugh and rejoin the other VKs. Jay wraps his arms around us, "Well, let's get this party started!" We laugh.
