Turnabout Disappearance [part 3]

Quick warning: Spoilers for Ace Attorney Trials and Tribulations! If you haven't gotten through it yet then you won't understand anything yet and there will be some of the biggest spoilers in the series!!

[12:05pm 'Fey & Co. Law Offices']

《Edgeworth's point of view》

"Honestly, after heading to the Police Department, I can only think we may be dealing with a far larger issue at hand than I initially thought." I warned the young spirit medium, "Everyone seems to have just disappeared. Not even just there in fact—the entire town, it seems has just vanished without any explanation."

I tried to keep my cool as to not worry the girl who stood before me, and not scare her away. Despite my efforts, the panic overtook me and showed externally a bit.

"If no one is at the Police Department or in town, then where else could they be? They couldn't have just disappeared right?" She replied, minimal worry painting her face.

It seemed she just thought the entire town went elsewhere for the day. One look outside would look like it was no coincidence however. Perhaps she hadn't gone outside yet. Regardless, I could only wonder: was Wright, Maya, and I the only people left here? Is Wright even still here? Since when did they all even disappear anyways? Question after question clouded my head, not knowing even a single answer to one of them.

"..."
I was silent. I was stuck in my head, struggling to come up with an adequate explanation that would not panic the purple-cladded medium. Should I just make up something? Or tell the truth?

"I...have no idea myself..." I couldn't bring myself to lie. It just felt...wrong. I had to tell the truth. No matter how painful it may be. How could I even think of doing that?!

"Well, I guess we have no choice then. Let's investigate, Mr. Edgeworth!" Maya said, upbeat as per her usual self. I even detected a strangely odd sense of confidence and courage, despite only having seen her in a few trials with Wright and no more.

Just as I was about to start walking off and leave, she interrupted me, thus, grabbing my attention, "Hey, where is the crime scene at anyways?"

"It's at The People's Park."

I walked her over to The People's Park as it was not farther than a few blocks away. She started off humming happily, and skipping her way down the street, however, as she looked around more, the stranger the lack of people became, clearly becoming more apparent to her—given her quizzical, if not concerned expression.

Around the time the entrance to the park came into sight she remarked, "Well this is odd. There's not even Police Officers or civilians around here either. Maybe it's just this area?"

[12:13pm People's Park]

《Edgeworth's point of view》

I couldn't help but feel the same way as Maya after her remark on the situation as well. Even here, there seemed to be a complete diminishment of people or authority whatsoever. Perhaps there were just a perfect lack of people in this area, like she said. Or maybe, it was just a false sense of hope... I want to believe it, but I still couldn't shake the feeling that something stranger was going on.

(Not even Police tape...I'm honestly starting to wonder if you, Wright and I are the only people left who exist in this world again.)

"Now I'm just getting even more worried about Nick〜!" My as of current assistant pouted at me.

...

It's just eerie.

Why can't I just shake this vibe I'm getting?

...

I half-mindedly walked over to a bench, almost in a complete daze of uncertainty. My legs were subconsciously walking wherever they pleased, carrying my body in any direction it so chose to go—step by step. I was apparently approaching a bench. There were things scattered on top of it—and a small splatter of blood?!

I backed up in shock, after having shouted the 'blood' part out loud only to find Maya had followed me the entire way here.

"Hey Mr. Edgeworth, you think there's a clue here with this tiny bit of blood and these tiny pieces of junk here? I mean if Nick was poisoned, there shouldn't be any blood here... riiiight?" She commented, "Also, this necklace is so pretty! Do you think I can keep it?! I mean nobody's here, so〜..."

"ABSOLUTELY NOT!" I shouted, "Just because nobody is around and there's no law enforcement does not entitle you to stealing some one else's property!"

"Aww man〜...I was hoping I could.. You're just as much of a meanie as Nick〜." Maya pouted.

(Honestly, you're just like Mrs. Faraday...)

The "pieces of junk" were 2 things:
A bottle of Cold Killer X, and a necklace.

For some reason, that necklace seemed eerily familiar...

—WAIT

ISN'T THIS—?!?!

Shock completely overtook my body and face as I jumped back once more while the girl was looking the other direction. Upon hearing my abrupt movements, she turned to face me.

At that moment I answered her question, "I'm not sure actually. I just walked over here without thinking, however, it is most certainly the scene of the crime. Certain poisons can cause someone to cough up blood when ingested after all." I corrected her.

As I wracked my brain, thinking of any and all necklaces I had seen in a trial before, it came to me. Every single red flag possible set off in my head at once.

Dahlia Hawthorne.

I hadn't thought to bring luminol, but I did have aluminum powder. However, I had no fingerprint records to check from, as I would need to ask the Police Department for those records. Despite that, I have a pretty conclusive suspect. I know her motives, and I know she intended to not just poison him, but kill him, even if it was still merely conjecture at this point.

Why did Wright meet up with her? Why on Earth did he even fall for the one thing she tried to do all those years ago? How could he have fallen for her tricks again? I may not have been there at the time Wright was convicted, however I do know of that trial after Prosecuting for the trial with Mr. Falls.
