Can't A Girl Dream?

Chapter 1~

"Hello!" I heard a voice behind me. I felt the hair stick up on the back of my neck like little thorns. My hands were dirty and smudged with dirt. I was holding a grasshopper in my fist when I turned to see a girl with short, brown hair leaning over the short, white fence. Her eyes were green and her skin was only slightly pale. "What are you doing?"

"Uh, nothing," I spat out. The moment I did, she hopped the fence like it was nothing (it basically was nothing). She walked over to me.

"Whatever it is, can I play, too?" She got close enough to see the grasshopper struggling to escape my grasp. "Cool! I'll look, too!" She turned around and began digging around the grass, getting a little dirt on her fingers. Looking at her closer, she looked to be around my age (maybe younger). I noticed that from the back, her hair was pulled into a short ponytail.

I must had been looking at her for a few minutes, because she turned around with a worm inbetween her fingers, saying, "Look at what I found!"

"Um," I mumbled. What was I supposed to say? This was extremely weird. She was wearing a green dress and had a necklace on and everything. She looked totally refined before she started digging in the dirt. 

That was just a small summary of what happened. Except that, at the time, I thought she was a boy just with weird hair. She even kind of sounded like one.

Today was my first day of high school, it was also Elizabeta's (Liz's) first day as well.

"Hey, loser! You ready yet?" I heard Liz's voice from outside my window. When I peeked out, she was standing on the sidewalk with her backpack over her shoulder. She was wearing the school uniform which was a blue sweater vest (with a white, collared shirt underneath of course) and a blue, plaid skirt. She was wearing black leggings and a tan sweater over everything because it was beginning to get cold out. The winter uniform.

Her hair looked longer, too. It could almost reach her hips, and it had a green hair clip in it. She looked much more like a girl than she did back when we both met.

"Yeah, yeah, don't get your skirt in a twist!" I called out as I slammed my door shut since I was barely wearing anything and it was freezing outside. Like, really freezing. We suspected snow any day now.

After having taken a shower and getting dressed, I ran out there, a piece of bacon still in my hand. She said, "You're gonna get grease all over your hands."

"I don't really care," I responded. The walk to school was quieter than usual. Normally, she'd go on and on about something dumb. Believe it or not, LIz is actually a girl. She has crushes and she has dates and she has makeup troubles and hair troubles. But people look at her as one of the guys.

"You seem quiet today," I said.

"Yeah, it's nothing," she responded. It was obvious that she was being bugged by something. At school, she immediately rushed to class even though it wasn't time. I sighed. Yep, something was bothering her.

"Good morning, Gilbert," someone greeted me from behind. I shut my locker and turned to see Antonio. He had green eyes, brown hair, and he seemed to have someone attached to his arm. It was Lovino, of course. He looked grumpy as usual.

"Morning, Toni," I greeted him back. "Morning, Lovi." Lovi grunted in response. Lovi was Feliciano's (Feli's) brother. He and his brother were living with Toni and his family so they were kind of like brothers. I guess you could say they were adopted into the family, but not in a legal sense. I would tell you, but I don't know the whole story and it's probably meant to be turned into it's own book. It's not meant to be in this one.

"I'm going to class," Lovi announced before rushing off in a different direction. Toni laughed and turned his attention back to me.

"So, what's been going on?" Toni and I began walking in the direction of our class. We stood side by side talking about the new, boring things going on in our lives. "What about Liz? How is she?"
