I was at the hospital waiting for the doctor to come back with the results. The doctor arrived right when I wanted to just leave, how convenient. "I am diagnosing your son with a concussion," the doctor said. "I understand this is his second now this past year. I'm concerned about your son receiving another concussion. If he gets another injury, he'll most likely need to quit football." I imagined in my head sarcastically, oh how magnificent this is, what a coincidence I'd love to have another. My mom just sat there blankly, shocked by what had just happened. I walked out and the doctor talked to my mom telling her things like; How to calm my symptoms and how to treat the concussion.

The only thing that would lift my spirit, was the fact that I wouldn't need to go to school. But at the same time, I would miss my classes and my grade would drop. I guess that wouldn't be too bad considering we had semesters so mid-term wasn't till October. Also, with my intelligence and intellect, I could easily work it back up.

My mom drove me back home and during the car ride, she said," You should lie in bed and keep an ice bag on your head. Additionally, take ibuprofen or acetaminophen (Tylenol) every six hours." Wow, I have to rest all day, this will be fun, I muttered sarcastically. "Oh ya, you also need to reduce TV and video game time, don't talk very much and drink lots of water," Yay! more downsides to the concussion I have to deal with for the next couple months, I again proclaimed sarcastically.

I wasn't thrilled with what I had to do considering my friends got to do whatever they wanted. While my friends could roam free I would just have to sit and rest my head with an ice pack over it. Every once in a while, I could maybe watch TV and also have to take a pill every six hours. I wouldn't be able to play with my friends for a while.

I sat in bed with a couple of tears running down my face. My mom soothed my head to help me relax. She leaned over me and told me," You can return to school in less than a week and you can see all your friends. You just have to be careful. Don't get another concussion. You also can play football about 5 days after you can go to school. Probably a couple of days before the game." My mom soothing me and telling me these words let me give out a weak smile. I still wasn't pleased with the results but at least I could still play football.

The next couple of days until I could go to school felt like torture. I lay there in my bed and did the same routine for a few days. It was six days until I could go to school and the pain wasn't even close to terminated but was at least tolerable. The pain degraded and the time ticked slowly. I was tired of waiting until I could go to football practice, but the day finally came. The day was September 2nd and my pain had reduced enormously. I finally had the ability to go to football practice and I could compete in the game I love.
