I awoke to the smell of cooking meat. I opened my eyes and blinked twice, a little confused, wondering where I was, since I didn't recognize the bedroom at first. Then, Connor walked in, and I smiled when I saw him. "Hey." He smiled back at me. "Hey. Breakfast is ready." I groaned playfully and pulled the covers over my head. "Five more minutes..."

His form went over mine and kissed me. "You don't want to be late, do you?" My eyes widened, as I'd forgotten what day it was. "Crap!" I got up out of bed, and I stared at him as he walked to the door. "Don't worry, it doesn't start for another few hours. You might wanna put some clothes on too." Blushing, I started to get dressed.

Walking into his kitchen, I saw strips of deer cooking over the fire pit he'd built, and saw that Connor had a small smirk on his face. I crossed my arms. "And what exactly is so funny?" He shrugged. "It's cute seeing you flustered." I punched his arm. "Shut up." Sitting down next to him, I started to eat some of the deer.

He must have seen my expression, because he placed his hand on my shoulder. "Hey...you don't need to be nervous. You're gonna do great." I shook my head. "It's not that. I mean, I am nervous, but not for that reason. It's just...I never thought I'd see this day, y'know?" Connor took my hand. "Don't worry. You'll be alright, I'll be there the whole time."

After breakfast, we both got dressed in more formal outfits. I walked out in a small dress that one of the knitters in the village had made for me. It was bright red to match my hair, and flowed whenever I walked. It was long enough for me to wear my sneakers, cause God knows I'd wear heels.

Walking out into Connor's main room, I saw him step out in a black jacket with a blue undershirt and grey pants. He had a felt eyepatch that had been given to him by Dr. Rajesh, and was about as formal as he could get. I smirked a little, and leaned against the doorframe. "You clean up nice for a pirate." Connor laughed, looking at me. "You're not too bad yourself." Giving him a quick peck on the cheek, I smiled. "C'mon, we're gonna be late." He nodded and took my hand, opening the door to the outside.

The sun was shining down on a beautiful day, and I knew that today was meant to be. He couldn't have picked a better moment to do it. As we walked through the centre of the village, I saw that it was empty, and I knew that everyone was busy getting ready, same as we were. As we passed by the garden near the town hall, I turned to Connor. "Wait...can you give me a sec?" He nodded.

Walking over to the garden, I saw the new additions that we'd made a few months ago. Several headstones were behind the greenhouse, each with the names of someone who'd died in what everyone was now calling The Battle of Sanctuary. One of the names I had known personally. I stood in front of the grave of Maxine Francis.

Sighing, I looked down. "I just wanted to say thank you again. I can never repay you for what you did to save not just my life, but the lives of everyone here. I wish you were still alive so you could be here to celebrate today." I placed my hand on top of the headstone. "I'm just glad we got to see each other for real one last time." I lingered there for a moment before I went back to join Connor.

Walking up the steps of the town hall, I opened the doors, seeing that the chairs had been separated into two sections, with a small walkway and a carpet in between them. People were standing around, talking to each other. There was a small archway made out of wood and covered with flowers and vines at the end of the carpet.

I looked up at Connor. "See you at the end of the ceremony." He nodded and then kissed me, walking off to be with the rest of the best men. As I joined the bridesmaids, I saw Julie smiling at me, wearing a short yellow dress. "You look amazing, Vee!" I smiled. "Thanks. You see her yet?" Julie shook her head. "No, but apparently she looks gorgeous."
