Chapter Two: Deception between broken hearts

Ana’s P.O.V

The girls and I walk to the beach discussing the plans, and somehow the conversation led to the reason why we’re here. “Wouldn’t it be so cool if One Direction were here, I mean they are in Hawaii,” I say desperately changing the topic.  “Come on Martina the only reason why we’re here is because we wanted you to forget about You-Know-Who,” Sofia says. “Voldemort” Hannah asks sarcastically. “Oh yes, we came here because of Voldemort,” Martina answers sarcastically. “The main reason why we are here is because we want to have fun,” I say, “And to forget, but mostly to have fun,” Gaby adds. I look at Martina who was sad once again, “Hey guys!” says someone behind us, we all turn around to see Kayla. “Oh My Gosh! Hey!” I say. “Why are you here?” we ask her. “Vacation! How ‘bout you?” she asked. “Same!” we answer. Martina looked down, “Ummm is she…” Kayla trailed off when she saw us shake our heads. I moved closer “Break up,” I whisper. A wave of understanding covers her face, “Oh,” she says. The girls and I haven’t been close to Kayla; we just talked to her once or twice in class. Then congratulated each other during grad but that was it. We didn’t even bother to know her full name. “Mind if I join you guys? My brother doesn’t want me bugging them,” Kayla asks. ‘You have a brother?” Gaby asks, “Sure,” I answer. “Come on let’s swim,” Sofia says.  I grab her hand and we run to the beach.

Martina sat in the shade, I know she was trying to forget, but I also knew it was hard. “Hey, let’s swim to the waves!” Hannah suggested. So we ran to the water, “Yeah go ahead, ill put some sunblock,” Martina says smiling. Kayla sits beside her, “I’ll wait for her, and I just ate so.” “Okay,” Gaby and Sofia say before joining Hannah in the water. “See ya,” I say and head to the cold, clear blue salt water. My feet buried in the white sand.

We then decided to race in the water, the first person that reaches the shore swimming backwards wins. As I swam backwards, I bumped into someone, “Hey! Watch where you’re going!” I say as I turn to face the guy.

I knew in an instant whom it was, the brown hair slacked and flat, and his gray eyes staring at mine. Emotions started to flow in my mind but one emotion particularly struck out. Anger.

“You!” I say and slapped his face; he holds his cheek. “Hey Ana, nice to see you too,” replies Gabe. He moves closer to me “Don’t be such an ass, stay away from me. No better yet stay away from Martina,” I warn him. “She’s here?” he asked. His lips curving, “Ana who—oh fuck!” Gaby said as she swam near me. Gabe smiles his eyes filled with evil, “Hello Gabriella, how’s Sissy?” Gabe asked. “Don’t call me that,” Gaby snapped at him. “So she is here, where is Martina?” He asks facing his attention back to me. “You? What the—Hannah!” Sofia shouted as she swam beside me. Hannah came, “Oh, shit—I’m warning Her,” Hannah says as she started swimming back to shore. “Great Martina is here, I’ll say hello,” Gabe replies. “No,” we stop him. “Don’t you think you’ve done enough? If she sees you again she’ll break down,” I say. Hannah was already near the shore. “Come on girls, I just want to see my girlfriend,” He says, “She isn’t your girlfriend, as a matter of fact, you cheated on her didn’t you? Your over,” Sofia says. He just smiles, “Back off, she isn’t yours to control, and neither am I,” Gabe explains. He pushes me back into the water and swims to the shore, as If I’m not mad at him already, I surfaced. “Hannah’s on shore,” Gaby says as we swim back, “We came here for her to forget and he’s here,” Sofia says. “I know,” I answer as we swim back.

Martina’s P.O.V

“So yeah, we broke up because I found out that he cheated,” I explained to Kayla, she nodded and wiped a tear off her eye. “I'm so sorry,” She says, “Yeah, me too,” I answer. I hear someone scream my name, “Martina!” she called. I look behind me, and see Hannah running from the shore her face frantic. I knew something happened, “What is it?” I ask. “You need to leave, he’s here. You’ve got to go!” Hannah replied. “Who? Who’s here?” Kayla asked. “Gabe,” I say looking at the guy who was walking near me, great summer this was turning out to be. “Martina, good to see you… Eh I’ve seen better,” Gabe “greets” My cheeks turn red, “I’m sorry, I don’t feel the same way,” I answer and turn around but he grabs my hand and pulls me near him. “Well too bad,” He shrugs, “You seemed nicer when we dated,” He continued. “You seemed like a great guy, but I see that changed,” I answer. He moves closer, “You always knew to pick your own fights, I like that about you,” He says moving closer again. “Martina don’t you dare believe that—thing,” says Sofia, the girls walked behind me. “Martina,” My sister called.

“I still loved you, you know I loved you,” He says. “Until you…” I stopped myself, the memory flashes in my mind the day I saw him kissing another girl and I shiver. “I missed you,” He said moving closer, our faces only inches away, “Just stay away from me,” I reply leaving him. The girls followed me until we reached the other side of the beach and far away from him. I wipe the tears off my eyes, there’s no use in lying to myself. I still love him.

We take a swim and I forget the pain, but not him. “Guys I’ve got to go, thanks anyways. Bro might be looking for me bye!” Kayla says, “Bye!” We say. She stops, “Hey you guys want to eat dinner at the Calamari Restaurant?” she asks. “Sure!” we answer. She starts walking again, I remember, “Hey wait!” I say. She stops in her tracks “What’s your full name?

 I ask her. She smiles and answers, “Kayla, Kayla Malik.” and walks away leaving us open – mouthed. “She’s sisters with –with –“ I stutter, “Zayn Malik!” Ana says Hannah says dumbfounded.
