"Why the hell was I forced to come out here?" You thought to yourself as you watched the majority of the group horsing around in the snow. Somehow, Glenn had managed to find an empty clearing in the prison that was blanketed with the perfect snow to play in, but you really weren't enjoying yourself out here. You thought that maybe this would be fun for a little while, a way to take your mind off of everything, at least until your eyes began to uncontrollably water from the frigid winter air. You were never a huge fan of the cold, but you were forced to join in anyway. As the wind began to slightly increase in speed, you sneezed quietly and shivered a little.
"Come on, (F/N), loosen up!" Your friend (FR/N) shouted to you before throwing a slush-ball at you, hitting you directly in the face.
You tried your best not to tear up as you wiped the snow off of your face, the stinging pain growing progressively more intense as the seconds passed. Although (FR/N) was practically your only friend, you often felt as if she was more of an enemy, seeing that she also had taken a liking to the boy who overtime had become a major interest for you.
She would occasionally flirt with him, just to get on your nerves. You always tried to ignore it and go on with your chores, but something about it just made your blood boil. You weren't sure if he would flirt back, but you just figured that they had something that you two wouldn't ever have. That was a heartbreaking realization. Suddenly, you felt another hand hesitantly assist you in removing the freezing element from your features. Glancing up, you realized that it was your close friend and secret crush, Carl Grimes.Your pale cheeks burned slightly, causing you to place your hand across your mouth in a state of embarrassment.
"Guys, come on, stop throwing the snow at (F/N)." Carl muttered, annoyed from the immaturity of your other group members. "She's obviously not having as much fun as you guys, seeing that you dragged her out here against her will."
Everyone just shrugged off his protest and returned to their childish games, sending another snowball zipping past Carl, missing you by mere inches.
"Fucking idiots..." Carl mumbled under his breath, evidently ticked off that they had ignored him.
He reached for your hand, shivering slightly as his fingers intertwined with yours.
"Jesus, (F/N)!" Carl exclaimed, tracing his free thumb lightly across the palm of your hand. "We've only been out here for ten minutes, and your already colder than ice!"
"Yeah, well I'm not really a f-fan of the cold." You stuttered, your entire face completely numb and stained red from the constant cold. "Sorry if I'm ruining the intense fun."
After a few awkward moments filled with utter silence between the two of you, you felt an arm wrap around your torso, pulling you in close. Your cheeks blazed once you realized that it was Carl, mainly because he had never done anything like this.
"C-Carl-"
"I'm doing this because I hate to see people I care about suffering." He mumbled, his gaze averting away from you as his features became lightly dusted with a pink tint.
"People he cares about?" You thought to yourself, butterflies fluttering in your stomach by the very idea that Carl cared for you.
You lowered your eyelids, slightly placing your head gently onto his shoulder. Carl didn't object your drastic action, so you decided to leave your head there, gladly taking in the little bit of warmth that he provided for you.
After a few seconds, tears rolled down your cheek. Carl glanced down and lifted his other hand up to your cheek, gently wiping away the tears, instinctively causing you to flinch at his touch.
